    Classical Guitars before nylon?

From this web page: http://www.classicalguitarmidi.com/history/guitar_history.html "Treble strings were made of gut (superseded by more durable nylon after World War II), bass strings from metal wound on silk (or, more recently, nylon floss). "

    recording rock bass?

JStation I use my Jstation to record bass. It's actually designed to do bass and guitar. There is no separate Bass J-station, it has models for both types of amps. It sounds pretty good (IMHO).

    My first guitar...

My first was a peavey T-15 (circa 1981-2): http://www.philsguitars.com/images/elsolid/Peavey_T15.jpg I loved it at first, but in retrospect it was a terrible guitar. For the first couple years I played I thought the reason I couldn't play barre chords was the fact that I sucked. However...

how do i record with an amp modeller?

I have a Charvel model 4 (same pickups as your 6) and my monitor has a field day with them -- especially the humbucker! I think it's the fact the that the pickup is active (you know that little 9 v battery you have to replace once in a while) that makes it so bad. I find I get less...

    99 Red Balloons Cover

I like it, but I agree the fuzz on the guitar is a little weak. You said you ran it int he recorder direct. What did you run it out of? BTW, the vocals are great.

    j-station

Foot Pedal? I love my J-Station too, but Johnson seems to be struggling these days. I want to get a footpedal board for my J-Station (like the J-8), but can't find any of the standard online stores that carry it (Mars Music, Musisions Friend, Zzounds). Anyone know where I can pick one up, or...

Ive been working dilligently (Im on vacation)

I think the bass sounds really good. However, I found the guitar tone lacking. What did you use to record it? The drums get a bit repetitive after a while, but I think the vocals sound pretty cool.

World's Best guitar processor for direct recording

I tried several options and went with the J-Station. I get good sound out of it, and it has and S/PDIF output so you get a really clean (totally digital) signal to the sound card. Heck, and the $149 price tag sure doesn't hurt. ;)

    2nd Original Song By Tukkis

misterx, Whoa!?! Now clearly there are some flaws in this song, but it's it's easily of average quality (if not a little better) for what people post in this forum. He's asking for some feedback on how to improve his work, and that comment provides nothing. Tukkis, This is a cool tune...

    Timmy: A Southpark Tribute

Actually, there wasn't any autotuning going on there, but there should have been! I think what you guys are hearing is my attempt to shout "TIMMY!!!!!" in three part harmony. I didn't quite get it in tune and so you get a funny dissonnance. I may have to try tweaking that part again, but it...

    Timmy: A Southpark Tribute

OK, here's my first posting to the clinic in a couple months -- and it's an odd one! http://www.xalien.com/tunes/Timmy.mp3 If you watch the TV show called Southpark then you should get it. If you don't watch it then you'll think I'm crazy, but let me know what you think anyway! :)

    Let's See Some Pictures!!!

Dan, I absolutely recommend the Studiophile monitors. They're perfect for my set up, but if you're going to invest in a pair do yourself a favor and spend some time at the store listening to options. What's best for me might not be for everyone. :)

Daniel, Those are M-Audio Studiophile SP-5B monitors. Here's a close-up pic: http://www.xalien.com/studio/stand3.jpg I like them a lot -- for $300 nothing I found seems to come close. So, where's the picture of you're studio?!?!? :)

    Just starting

Gully, I'm going to have to disagree with Roadkill when he says a casette multi-tracker can't produce better results than a boom box. It's not that you'll get professional recordings with a cassette multi-tracker, but I don't think Tex has tried "boom box" recording lately to recall how bad...
