    Should I stop here?

I am recording an 'album' for my band in the next few weeks and am wondering if there is anything more I could do on the mixing side. I have recorded a tester by myself using the same gear I am planning to use to record the band. I think I am somewhere in the ballpark with this mix, it is never...

How should I sync all my gear up?!

Hi guys, its been a while since I've posted... just been eating up all the knowledge! Basically I have have added a few bits to my setup recently and am not too clear on the need or the way to go about syncing the lot up. I am multi-tracking whole bands so I am using 12+ inputs. The chain...

Oh yea the drums are close miked all on mic stands to avoid vibration and the kick is done the same a few inches out from the port hole.

Making the best of what I have.

Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean about the overheads, the main reason behind them is probably because they are dynamics right up close to the source, I have just been eq'ing the highs in afterwards. The recording was done in a very small bedroom with lots of absorption (curtains and a...

Making the best of what I have.

Hi all, not many posts here as of yet but what a great resource. Basically I have accumulated a small amount of gear over the years and now feel I have enough to make half decent recordings. I had a bassist friend round the other week for the sole purpose of recording a jam and to see what I...

    Bassy experiment

Hi guys, I am after some feedback on this mix if possible. Its just a little tune I threw together a few weeks back. The bass instrument is an acoustic guitar pitched down loads to sound *similar* to a double bass. the guitars were done through Revalver and the drums on Fl studio. I was...

    E-Mu Tracker Pre Static/Noise problem I can't fix!

Check the sample rate is the same between software, interface etc. I had a similar problem and this was the cause.

what sample rate do you record at?

I record at 48k/24 because the button to change the sample rate source on my digital mixer is broken :D But hey it works for me at the moment!

Do you remember your first songs ?

I remember sat in my old bedroom with my partner in grime drinking real cider and staring at a blank Ableton screen. That evening in particular we just ended up messing around with his Roland synth and not much more!! But we did get a riff down off my crappy old strat and went from there. We...

    Best Sounding CDs Ever?

For me its Queens of the stone age and Songs for the deaf. So much louder and powerful sounding than a lot of recordings without being a mess.... Always have to turn down a bit when a track pops up in my playlists!

    Pre amp out question

I don't know a lot, but I do know you will loose the sound of the speaker cabinet, and will probably end up with loads of harsh frequencies that you don't want and usually don't make it through the speaker..... unless you were to re-amp it at a later date. And that is something I really dont...

    strange noises on recorded tracks.

If anyone wants to hear the difference, this is the re-recorded version(jazzy redone)... and hold on it does get a bit better... and cheesier :p http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1080227

    strange noises on recorded tracks.

Sussed!!! It was the sample rate. The Korg mixer uses an internal rate of 48.0khz as opposed to the 41.00khz which all this time I thought it used. Sound is as clean as a whistle now, damn I am going to have to re-record everything.

    strange noises on recorded tracks.

Thanks for the reply! I have just eliminated the mixer by using that alone with the electric guitar into my amp and its absolutely fine. Also eliminated the guitar as it happens with other instruments too. I'm starting to think its the soundcard now on the input side of things. That test track...

    strange noises on recorded tracks.

Hi, it has been a while since I have posted but I have a very annoying problem. Whenever recording something or playing guitar through Revalver I get a buzz on all the low frequencies. It is fine when playing something that hasn't been recorded through my system. I have included a link to an...

A short song as a tester

Thanks for the replys guys. Looking back over the kit I notice the snare mic is pointing more at the rim than the skin, this may be why I had to cut the high end out a bit as I was just getting a 'ring' from the drum. Also may need a look at my monitoring setup as from here the bass drum is...

A short song as a tester

I am fairly new to this and have recorded a track for you guys to cast your ears over. Keep in mind I am not a guitarist but a drummer, so that will explain the poor guitar! I am using a Korg 168c soundlink digital desk running via 8 channel ADAT into an Emu 1212m and Ableton 8, then mixed in...

    Midi headache

I have an Oxygen 8 controlling my Roland XV-5050 synth which then in turn is connected via usb into the pc. I have installed the drivers no problems and it shows in the list in Fl studio under "generic controller" followed by active. But I have nothing from the Midi activity light. I am doing it...

    FL Studio

I started out with Fl studio and found it very educating, which in turn paved the way into other programs. Providing you have the inputs you can record as many tracks as you desire.
