    POP/PUNK basement recording

I don't know if this happened during mixing of if you did some post-mix compression, but there is an incredible amount of compressor pumping (listen on phones). Check your attack/release times or back off on the compression, that could take away the blanket over the drums. Then again, it's the...

    Dauntless - Death/Thrash Metal

How does one record triggered drums w/ real cymbals? Wouldn't the overhead mics bring in the real drum sound, making the triggered drums sound strange?

Making a portable phantom pwr supply

Hello- I want to capture some outdoor sound clips to use in my music. I figure the best way to go about this is with an omni condenser (I have only 1 of those- an ECM8000) through a minidisc recorder. Question is, is there a convenient way to make a portable phantom power supply? Five 9V's in...

    Looking for a preamp...

Pipeline- which of those circuit schematics do you recommend? I'm interested in making my own pre and this looks like a great way to get started. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

Beautiful sound. Nice and moody, I love that. *thinks he might buy some mc012's today...*

    BBE...ouchies on my earsies....see here.

These guys are much better than I was at 14, so I don't really have any music-related comments- except for that the singer should consider coaching or a pitch-traning course. He's got the voice, he just needs the pitches to be on to sound good. Now, as far as the mix goes, I really like the drum...

    EQ and Phase Issues

Hello- I can't seem to find the answer to this question anywhere: how does EQ introduce phase issues into a signal/mix? I know what phasing is and how it happens due to mic placement and the like, but can't seem to make this make any sense in my head. Can someone please explain it to me? Thanks!

    A Vote for Double Tracking

When I was 15, I was playing with my 4-track and figured this technique out by accident. These days, I always double track my rhythm guitar and double-track certain parts of the vocals for emphasis (choruses or keywords, for example). What I've found to make a cool guitar sound is...

    3 Doors Down Cover

Damn! You're 15? Your effort was amazing on this song. I can't comment much on the recording, it sounds fine for a beginner home recording but as far as the talent goes, you've got it in there. Your vocal is very good for the style of music you're playing, especially since you're just 15! Keep...

    24 bit version

I had the same problems with my Delta 66 recording at 24bits. My recommendation is to set the buffering to Very High rather thn the default High. It has made a world of difference on my new P4 1.6ghz system w/ XP.

New card.. new problems. Help please!

Thanks.. I'm going to try Win98 but I'm remembering that win98 doesn't work well on my motherboard. Sounds like I need a new motherboard for more than one reason- too bad I'm broke now after buying the Delta! Soyo hasn't upgraded my BIOS since 2000, and installing the latest VIA drivers didn't...

New card.. new problems. Help please!

Hello- I've been recording for a little while using just my old Ensoniq AudioPCI card and things were going just fine (except for the audio quality, of course!). 'Twas all great till the day I purchased an Delta 66 + Omni combo. The card and preamps sound great... BUT my performance is now so...

A few days and several remixes after...

Hehe everyone has the same opinions on the "woahs". They're terribly off-key in the original but I'm so used to singing along to it that it came out just as badly on my version. Yeah, it's a cover by a band called Central do Brasil, from Rio de Janeiro. It's in Portuguese. Thanks again for...

A few days and several remixes after...

Thanks for listening! I didn't write the song, and I wanted to make a "perfect" rendition of the original so I copied the drum patterns as exactly as possible (th original had real drums and was a little off-beat so I think I improved it a tad). I'm not a big fan of th woahs at th end, but...

A few days and several remixes after...

Hi, I posted this here song a while back and only one person replied, but nevertheless his comments were helpful. So, here is a remixed version (5th or so since I've last posted). I've boosted the vocals and done all sorts of neat effects. Have a listen...

    Drum pads + drum machine?

Hello! I have a BOSS Dr-670 drum machine, a very fine piece of work indeed. However, I'd like to learn how to play some drums and as such would like some kind of electronic set to play (I live in a townhouse, neighbors wouldn't much like me having acoustic drums). My drum machine has MIDI ins...

    First attempt

Hehe I was just about to ask how you got such a great drum sound and what mics you used. Guess the electronic set explains it :)

First completed song - give me feedback

Hello all, I've owned a 4-track since I was in 7th grade and have been mucking around with it since (I'm 17 now). I finally decided to upgrade to a digital studio setup, and have recorded this song using my computer and Magix Studio 6 Deluxe. Other items used: * Epiphone Les Paul standard guitar...
