I'm ready to get a good sound card. I'm running a P4 2.4ghz on an XP platform. My budget would peak at $800, but I'd like to spend less. The cards I'm looking at are: M-Audio Delta 10/10, Digidesign Digi 001, ST-Audio DSP3000, Echo Layla, Presonus Firestation 8-channel, Aardvark Aark 24, and...
Back to the original question...
Geez...some of you are gluttons for arguement! I think Illacov has a point (or quite a few). Chessrock summed it up nicely by saying that sometimes you get lucky. It still doesn't negate the fact that ME's have both good equipment and good ears. Your one mix...
First of all, I find it highly disrespectful for people (no names mentioned) to slam other peoples mixes given the fact that we have all spent considerable amounts of time working on this song. As others have already said, let's keep this a learning experience. I think a better title for this...
Tsk! Tsk!
"Ever" is a strong word, considering quantum physics and all. :)
I understand the latency issue, it's a bummer. But I think the idea is still usable, just not as real-time jamming. A chat board would be perfect. People could start various forums like "Need a drummer for techno song"...
I have been thinking of a great (IMHO) idea that could help us all. Maybe it is already out there, but what if there was a site where musicians could meet and exchange tracks to create a song. By this I mean that a drummer in Oakland could meet (online) a guitar player from Manhatten and they...
I am a newbie, so don't trust me :). But, I would say "stay simple". Get a good mic preamp and a good vocal EFX unit. Buy a simple, yet acclaimed, soundcard to interface with (like M-Audio 410). That should give you good results. Let us know how it turns out for you.
BB, I like the mix overall. The intro is cool. The chorus is cool. I see that you didn't care for the Toms too much either. I'm confused though. I can understand preserving the dynamics, but I think this mix needs a little umph (my personal opinion). What reverb did you use on the vocals? It is...
I didn't like this song when I first heard it, but it has definitly grown on me as I have listened to it 8 billion times now :)
I'm definitly a newbie and I've never mixed a drum set so I would appreciate comments/critics/anything.
Here's my mix...
I thought that's what it was at first, because I own a cheap/peice-of-crap camera called a pencam. But then I remembered that I connected with that using USB, and I found that cord too. So maybe its for something else, or maybe I obtained it somehow (???) from someone who owned a jamcam or...
I was digging through some boxes and found a cable that is mystifying me. It is a 9 pin female at one end and a miniplug (1/8" stereo male) at the other end. Does anyone know what this cable is for? I don't know where it came from and can't quite figure it out. To me, it's obviously a serial...
Which is better, USB or PCI? Ok, I know it probably depends on lots of stuff, but what I'm looking for here is some input from experience or specs. In other words, would I be losing anything if I went with USB. All my recording experience thus far has been with PCI cards. My new computer has...
Just a tidbit...
I used to use PC normalizing (along with editing to tame those stray peaks, so I could get more normalization). But then, I found the limiter, world of difference! Like others have said, it raises all of your apparent levels a certain Db level and then clips everything above...
I pondered this dilemma recently. Should I go with a mac/win, laptop/desktop, or custom/commercial system. It came down to this for me: I ended up getting a P4 windows xp desktop from dell. I was using Windows 98 and loved it except for a few complaints. Windows Xp is good for my new system...
I own a dearmond jazz box and I want to replace the neck pickup with something less "sharp". Any ideas? I'd like to spend less than $300. I've heard that I can get a good combo going with the onboard dearmond pickup at the bridge and an old gibson pickup at the neck. Does anyone have any remote...
I've also experienced the same problems and here is what I've learned from asking around here. Proximity effect: Try to record a couple feet (give or take some) away from the guitar (find the sweet spot) and aim the mic at the 12th fret. Also, you can get a parametric EQ with shelving to raise...
ok, so my tracks are insufficient. I didn't figure that people would be craving more tracks, and I'm at a loss with raw tracks right now. I'd love to belt out some fresh "raw" tracks, but my soundcard is currently defunct and all the tracks I have saved have been messed with. I picked these...
