cable question

I was digging through some boxes and found a cable that is mystifying me. It is a 9 pin female at one end and a miniplug (1/8" stereo male) at the other end. Does anyone know what this cable is for? I don't know where it came from and can't quite figure it out. To me, it's obviously a serial computer cable to connect to an audio device, but I can't figure out what. Any help?

Extremely cheap digital cameras (like the JamCam) use something like that to connect to the computer's serial port.

I thought that's what it was at first, because I own a cheap/peice-of-crap camera called a pencam. But then I remembered that I connected with that using USB, and I found that cord too. So maybe its for something else, or maybe I obtained it somehow (???) from someone who owned a jamcam or something. Any other ideas?
