Where can I find good but inexpensive mic stands? I need one for vocals, snare, bass and overheads.

If you want protools I would go with M-audio stuff. You have to by the software and hardware seperate but it can be less expensive.

With $1200 I would go with a iMac!

Check out barebone cases at Newegg, companies like Shuttle, Biostar and several others make shoe box side cases, they seem to work well and can be pretty sweet looking. Server cases are rack mountable so you can also look into those. Also you could look into a laptop.

What do you mean by harsh shrillness? I'm leaning towards ProTools and would like the Yamaha/1814 setup, but if the quality that much different I would look at different options. Thanks for everyone's help!
