    Video in the studio

OK. I don't know what the heck I'm talking about, so any of you video-philes, help me out here: I'd like to have video in the CR of the studio. Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3070859578&category=298 maybe? Clocking matters aside, what sort of wiring...

    External Power Supplies

Seems like most of the outboard gear I have, and most of the stuff I'm looking at has these big ol' external power supplies. (Brent Averill, API, Chandler....) Right now, I just have them sitting on a corner of a table next to my rack. But I'm wondering how some of you have incorporated these...

I need some long ADAT Lightpipe.

Any thoughts on this one? http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp?ProductCode=7779&Category=Studio Or is there something better I should look into?

    More AC pics

Day 2 of AC rougn-in. The inside unit gets set in the mech. closet. (That's a high efficiency HEPA air filter below the unit)

    A/C bid

Here's my bid and proposal for the HVAC for the studio: 1.) Prodive and install 4 ton, 13+ SEER and vairible speed heat pump system, to include Aprilaire High Efficiency Air Cleaner, Model 700 Automatic Humidifier, Energy Recovery Ventilator, 2 Automatic Zone Control Dampers. 2.) Install 2...

    How would you do this:?

My A/C contractor asked if I could lower the ceiling in the bathroom and Mech. closet to 9'. Its currently at 10' The 10' height allows me to simply run stringers across the top caps of the walls. But there's no top caps at 9'. Should I use some lag bolts to bolt a header to the studs at 9'...

    A/C Contractor

The contractor I was willing to award the bid to hasn't showed up or returned my calls in about 2 weeks now. SO, needless to say, he's out. I'm kind of glad actually, because I met with another contractor today. This guy sounds like he really knows his stuff, and he was very enthusiastic about...

    Surround question...

You guys are probably sick of me and my pics by now, but I actually have a question this time. The following pictures show how I intend to mount my rear surrounds. The "soffit" is actually built INTO the wall, rather than ONTO the wall as is typical in soffit mounted MAINS. Is there any problem...

    More pics...

The electrical rough-in is more-or-less complete. Here's a few pics: Main panel. A 240 amp upgrade at the house allows for a separate 120 amp sub panel here.

    ADAT Light pipe

How far can you extend it?

OK, so I dusted off the ol' soldering iron...

...and although its been longer than I care to admit since the last time I had the iron hot, my practice run went really well. I can still "tin the leads" like nobody's bid-nez, and I managed to get nice joints without big globs of solder on them. Nice, smooth even, shiney joints! I'm going...

    DIRT & GRIME Construction photos

Man this is hard work! A quick and dirty update: This photo I have nearly finished framing the Live Room wall up to the ceiling:

Time to cable up.... questions abound.

OK. Its time for me to start my wall plates and some audio cableing as the electricans are almost done with rough-in. I have troughs in my slab which will have cover plates on them and will be used to route the cables under the floor from the console to the individual wall plates. I have done...

    What's John's e-mail addy...

...the click through's only work with outlook express, not outlook. So if you have the actual e-mail addy.... I'd sure like to know it.

    Progress photos

Just thought I'd post a few teasers. I'll do a formal update at John's after the first of the month. This is the Control Room rear wall. The angled framing that you see is essentially a mock-up to make sure it fits well, and to line out any "nailers" that will be needed to attach these bass...

    CR rear wall

Well, things are moving along. I framed up the rear wall of the Control room Saturday. The structural part of it, that is. And I laid-out the framing for the slot resonators, and the up-lighting "bench". The area for the slot resonators are a maximum 24" deep, and a minimum 14" deep and about...

    Woodworkers: Putting up "beadboard"

While I have other trades working inside the studio right now, I've been working on the patio cover. On the underside of the cover, I placed plywood, and over that I'm going to apply this tounge and groove beadboard. It's pretty thin stuff, like 1/4". So I was going to apply some glue to the...

    Bass guitar as studio instrument

I'm thinking of picking up a bass guitar for use as a studio instrument. I don't play bass, so I have no idea what to look for. For you seasoned bass players out there, what would be a good bass to look into? You know, something that, if you walked into a studio, and saw it, you wouldn't turn...

    I actually HAVE been busy....

Construction resumes on the inside. The idea here is to finish out the rear exterior wall, so that framing on the CR rear wall can be completed. With that in mind, here's a couple quick progress shots: The rear wall gets insulated with rockwool.
