I know that everyone has different plugins and outboard gear but i know that a lot of the emulations are suited better for different tasks.. i guess what im asking is would you use an la-2a emulation on vox and maybe an 1176 on guitar? vice versa? fairchild on a vocal or do you like it better on...
I recorded and mixed all these songs and I feel like they came out to my liking but im not the only person in the world, so it helps to hear from others what they think. :drunk:

i heard the stock tubes in this thing aren't anything special and should be swapped for some jj 12ax7s. have you guys heard any other tube ideas for this piece or tried them yourselves? I've got one on the way to match up with the pro vla i just got.. btw this compressor surprised me!! it really...
I know you guys know a lot about what you like and I'm working at a music store right now trying to find out what brands we should carry. It's kinda hard for us right now because we're a mom and pop store and guitar center is right down the road, so when we start to carry more brands, I want...

the preamp seems to be just fine for vocals but it makes the guitar sound very harsh when im using distortion. i tried messing with mic placement and the tube blend but i can't seem to get a good distorted guitar sound from it. I'm micing a marshall halfstack with a shure sm57 and running...
I need to know if there's any exact measurements for mic placement to avoid phase cancellation on a drum track. I'm going to be using two overheads, sm57 on snare, kick inside the head, and clip on tom mics. I've got a studio projects vtb1 coming in the mail and it has phase reverse on it but...
hello everyone. i need some good vocal mics for a decent price and i know akg is a good brand. I also want to try doing some recording with them (close micing my marshall). I have an sm57 but something seems to be wrong with it. the frequency range sounds thin and kinda shitty... so I'm on a...
what are some tips you guys have to help bring out the crack in the snare. I really want it to sound big and so i know to boost the 200 hz but to have more crack, i'm at a loss. ive got an sm57 to mic it and it sounds ok but not powerful enough.
so i guess i originally posted this in the wrong forum and didn't get much of a response so would anyone here like to give me some advice on my rough, unmixed song?

so some of you might remember that a few months ago i posted a link to my myspace site and it had some mixes on there that i recorded in my room. Now my band has recorded with someone whos taken an interest in us and luckily is recording us for the fun of it. I just posted a completely raw...
of course there's always something new to learn in the world of recording and thats probably why i like it so much. I think in the past few months i've learned a lot and I'm pretty proud of my new song. I only had a fostex mr8, cheap fender mics, and an mxl 990 running through an alesis 3630...

let me know what you think they need. I hear other songs on myspace and they don't seem to have a grainy sound when recorded properly but mine do sooo, I guess I'm doing something wrong. It doesn't sound that way in the actual mix but once on myspace it degrades the...
