Fender Passport

For the love of Pete! get the Yamaha system. Hell for that price I might get one myself. The passport is a good idea but unfortunately the sound quality just doesn't cut it. The pre's on that mixer are no good whatsoever. The vocals sound so dead through it and 6.5in speakers just aren't big...

    New portable digital multi-track

Well I'm not a big fan of the Zoom products that I have tried but I've got to admit this one is interesting. http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/love.music?p=p.ZOMPS02&z=810699699219 The biggest potential I see for it is for live audience recordings but it would be great to take along on trips...

    Clarence White

If you are a fan of Clarence, I sincerely hope you have heard the Bluegrass work he did with the Kentucky Colonels. Clarence was one of the true innovators of bluegrass music and influenced pretty much everyone who followed him in that genre. I would put him in the same category as Doc Watson...

    Fruity Loops Sample Question

The majority of my recording consists of voice and acoustic guitar but eventually I would like to try and add some drums and bass. I can play the drums a little but I don't see myself acquiring a set in the near future so I plan to use a software based drum machine. I have played around with...

    Napster... What is your view???

quote:
Originally posted by OldGrover: I will mention that the RIAA did a survey of record stores near campuses (people expect that students will be most active in the Napster/mp3 trading community) which showed that sales HAD dropped an...

    Napster... What is your view???

quote:
Originally posted by Rev E: Hixmix, I don't follow the logic. You have to know the title of the song to do a search on Napster. How does discover a new artist if they don't know of them and don't have a clue as to what they...

    Napster... What is your view???

I have mixed feelings towards Napster. I use it quite regularly so I don't have any serious misgivings about it but I do realize that the vast majority of Napster users are stealing music. I feel like the detrimental effects of Napster on artists is grossly exaggerated though. Could it...

    scales, pentatonic etc...

I'd say the next logical step for you would be to learn the diatonic scales which is one of the things virtual.ray mentioned. It only adds two more notes and it can get you into trouble since they don't always fit as nicely as the pentatonic ones but having three notes, on most of the strings...

    Dave Matthews Band Drum Sound

Drumdummie is right. Here's his kit http://www.geocities.com:0080/SunsetStrip/Venue/9123/carterbeauford/drumset.html No mic's on there though. I his live mic's used to be listed on the official DMB site but not anymore. As for what he uses in the studio, that's probably gonna be hard to...

    What mic on the vocals?

For live vocals you need a dynamic mic. The Shure SM57's and 58's are the most common but not my first choice. There are a whole lot of options to choose from. As far as amps go, for vocals you are going to need a PA system of some sort. If you must go with an amp, use an acoustic guitar amp...

    Zoom GM-200, A POD Killer ?

I have tried a multitude of Zoom effects. They have a lot of appeal because their prices appear too good to be true. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for here. I have yet to hear anything made by zoom that sounded remotely acceptable.

    Harmonica

It's not crossharp. She just started learning to play it and it is more along the line of Neil Young/Bob Dylan (i.e. no single notes)
