I forgot to mention this....

While in Chicago, I went to Chicago Music Exchange, which is maybe the most bad ass guitar store I've ever been to.

Jdod, here's the guitar you need since George Lynch is your new hero:

Lol, I've got an aria pro ii that might fit the bill too :)

Nice! I'd love to go to that place. It's the same top dude that's behind Reverb.com. so I see a lot of CME listings on here. They must have an impressive collection of cool, rare, and vintage stuff there.

Oh and I survived Amsterdam. I did eventually wander into a "coffee" shop. It was fun. Other than that, it was a shit ton of walking for an out-of-shape American. Saw all the cool stuff, really enjoyed that town.

Now we're in Paris for a week. This will be interesting because I'm the one of the 5 of us that speaks the most French, and I can barely count to 3. I can, however, tell anyone that I have a red guitar. (I don't actually have a red guitar, but I did when I learned to say that). So apparently we're eating whatever French waiters feel like giving us for the next week. I'm expecting lots of boogers in my food...

Anyway, amongst the discussion of amps my blues tone sunk like a stone!

Also, this might amuse you lot. Europe's biggest Elvis Festival has just descended on my little town. Porthcawl Elvis Festival - The Premier UK and European festival
Might wander down this evening, have a beer and see if I can spot The King.
sounds pretty good to me tonewise.

I agree with greg about the feel though.
Try a bit 'o' vibrato on the longer notes.

Nice licks though ..... playing is fine .... nice tonage

Cheers, Bob. It's nice an early here this morning so I'm working on the structure of it and laying the bass line down, I'll re-track the guitars later. With the structre under my fingers a little more I should be able to enjoy playing it a bit more too. I think its going to get weirder though and stop following the standard blues progression. I want to chuck a bit of Locrian in there just for shits and giggles.

haha, well done mate. The weed is pretty strong over there isn't it? Did you visit Anne Frank's?
Hey, you're not in Paris unless a French waiting treats you with complete distain and just shrugs at you before giving you the food that he thinks you deserve.

Excellent - I'll have the one 8th from the left on the top row.

Here's an interesting one.

This is my normal distortion sound but I've sent the FX send of my amp to my interface. I've then added my usual reverb and also a speaker cabinet impule where I've completely muted the dry signal. Its not quite what I'm after but its better than what I expected. The drawback is that it sounds bloody horrible in you headphones when you're tracking.

Jdod: Both clips have pretty good tone, the "Dokken" lead sounds really good to me, but the rhythm is sorta boxy, to me...

The blues clip is better than the hair-metal clip, but the guys are right, you need to put some feeling into it...I know that's easier said than done, but that's what the blues is all about...

Not bad, it is a bit boxy but still good. Does yours not have an emulated line out or where you just trying something different?

Yeah, was just having a mess about. It was about 7:30 in the morning here so I was just having a mess about without making any noise.

Weirdly my amp still worked without the effects return plugged in, I expected it to be quiet, but I had to turn the master right down.

Cheers, Miner. I've just finished that blues track. I'll post it up in the clinic in a bit.

That's not bad. It doesn't sound much different from your usual tones.

Have you tried the emulated out?

Yeah, the emulated out is minging. Just coming up with ideas really - I'm gonna start building my new cab over the next few weeks then I'll swap my combo for a HT20 head. I'll be able to travel with the head far more easily so i'll be able to use it to put sctrach tracks down during the week.

That "wall of pauls" pic is cool. They sure do have a lot of 3 pickup customs.
If you couldn't find a Paul you like there... there's no pleasing you!

I found about 100 I like.

Not shown in that pic, directly under my right arm, was a 79 Silverburst Custom that was beautifully checked and "greened". It was so awesome.

Oh man I'd love something like that. I gotta go check that place out sometime.

Here's a clip of the watered down EVH amp, with a low gain 12AU7 in V1...I used my cheap strat copy for this clip, the strat clips you guys have posted got me thinking about it, so here goes....

Left guitar signal chain & amp settings:
Strat > EVH LBX > EVH Greenback > i5

switches between 2nd & 1st p'up position
15w mode
switches between channels
Resonance:...............2
Gain:.......................7
Bass:......................6
Middle:...................4
Treble:...................8
Volume:.................5
Presence:...............2

Right side guitar signal chain & amp settings:
Strat > EVH LBX > EVH Greenback > i5

neck p'up
4w mode
blue channel
Resonance:...............2
Gain:.......................7
Bass:.......................6
Middle:....................4
Treble:....................8
Volume:..................3
Presence:................5

Not sure why, but dropbox is acting weird, I uploaded the mp3 like always, but it won't let me copy the link, so I had to upload it to the forum...I'd rather just click on a link, & have it pop up in another window rather than downloading, but this is the only wayI can get it to work right now....
