That mexican tele thread got me thinking about my Strat again, so I yanked it off the stand, dusted it off, plugged it in, and...

sounds good .... pretty straty but with an edge to it ...... palm mute stuff especially sounds good.

Thanks Boob. I sat there and thought "what can I play that's Stratty"? I don't know anything to really showoff the Stratness of a Strat, so I just made up some regular Greg shit and went with it. :D

Thats very interesting. Besides sounding good, the interesting part is how you can hear every change of pickup and switching of the pups.

Thats one of the things I dig about Strats. How sensitive and articulate they are.

Well it's only the bridge, mostly bridge, and a little bit of neck near the beginning. I don't like any of the blended positions or middle.

I had to be quick on that one. I'll do another tomorrow with all of the pickup positions.

Man, I hope your hands get to feeling better! Take care of Prometheus and Epimetheus. That is what you've named your left and right hands, right? No? Maybe Rocky and Bullwinkle? Lefty and Knuckles? :D

Greg

Honestly I think that's a totally usable set of tones. The bridge pickup sounds pretty frail until you really start digging into it with the power chords or double-stops and bends. I thought the neck pickup sounded really good. Definitely not a Greg-style feature tone, but would make great texture in a song or three.

actually, I'm having significant hand problems ..... I'm starting to have trouble holding a pick ....

Dude, that sucks. A couple of years ago I started having problems with my fretting hand. You told me then you had some problems but just played through it. I took that as advice and tried to do the same thing. In fact, I tried to exercise it more. Now, I honestly can't remember when it stopped hurting. My knuckle still looks deformed, but I have full motion and no pain. I just played through. Thanks Mang.

I hope you find some relief, too.

Thanks. I dunno, I'm gonna re-string it and give it another go today. The strings on it now have been one there for about...oh maybe almost 5 years. Lol. When I say I never touch that guitar, I mean it.

Besides surf tones, which the Hallmark Mosrite does better, I really just don't know what to do with it anymore.

I think this actually sounds pretty good Greg, obviously it's different from your usual LP/SG tones, but it's pretty good...I bet when you throw some new strings on it it'll be even better dude...Would have pretty good contrast with your other tones in a mix IMO....

Thanks. It's been on literally hundreds of my recordings in the past. It's just when I finally started piling up Gibsons, well, they're a lot better playing and sounding to me. When I'm tracking and deciding which guitar I wanna use, the Strat never even enters my mind.

I think that sounds alright... but it would sound better on a guitar with humbuckers.

even though I'm not a paul player ... when I'm doing rhtythms and such I reach for the paul because its intonation is just so good and dependable.

You mean like a....Les Paul? :D

Wait how did I not know you have a LP? I know you have like three firebirds, but don't remember you having a LP.

OK, so I'm not normally that arsed with lead tones - I normally just use my rhythm tone and turn it up a bit, maybe add a hint more gain. I'd like to make this fit better in with the Rhythm but I don't know quite how. Its a similar tone to the rhythm, possibly with a little more gain.

Yes, I know my playing is still a little flakey on this - but I've done loads of takes and keep making tiny mistakes! All I've done in the DAW is add a bit of reverb.

Sounds pretty good to me Jdude, I do hear a couple small tuning/intonation things, but you should be able to square those away pretty easily....

I think it just sounds a bit dull/dead to me. There could well be a couple of small tuning issues in there as I'd done a fair few takes to get this close to right. The tuning thing could be the odd note choice at the end though, I change to A Major on the ascending run at the end and its a little bit jarring at first. To be fair, it might sound better as I get better at playing it and my hands relax a little more.

Gregorry, that Strat clip sounds pretty good. I dont like to play them but people sure can make them sound good.

JDOD, that lead tone sounds good to my ears and I dont hear any tuning problems but Im a newb and my listening skills arent that advanced. I wish i could play like that!
