I know I'd like them. I don't wanna spend GC prices on them though. When I decide to get some, I think I can do better than that.

What I'm really hoping for is that my usually pretty good luck pops up again. It's not all luck, I do spend time and effort to find killer deals, but there's a lot of luck involved too. I'm hoping I find some kind of forgotten gem in a corner somewhere that costs exactly 500 dollars. :D

I know amps and guitars are pretty much off the table for only 500 bucks. But you never know.

Are those speakers higher at GC than they are at like AMS, Sweetwater, etc??? Just curious, I paid $150 for mine from AMS. I also bought the G12-65 re-issue at the same time, & it was about $15 more, so I ended up with a tad over $300 for those 2 speakers, which is a crazy amount for 2 speakers, but they're killer IMO...

It'd be sweet if you could get the G12H's for about $120 apiece, you could have enough for a 4x12...

Believe it or not, all the shit I've gotten in the last few months have pretty much cured my GAS for now. There will always be things I want, but from now on, I'm gonna make it a point for whatever I buy to be kinda practical from now on. Like the JCM800, as much as I'd love to have one, there'd be no way I could use that thing the way it's supposed to be used, so it kinda kills the lust for me....a little....:D

I really haven't priced them. I just know I can probably find them online at smaller outlets for less and not pay tax or shipping. They're not really a priority for me though. When I do finally go back to speakers, I think I'm gonna get stuff to put my cabs back to one type of speaker each. I've already got four original G12-65s. I want them in one cab. I've got a pile of G12T-75s. I couldn't really care less about them. I need to get more Greenbacks and V30s.

The last thing I need is another cab, but I can't help feeling like I'm coming home with one today. :laughings:

That's why I jumped on the EVH cab so quick, matching speakers, it was/is in mint condition, & for almost half what a new one costs...I think I got a great deal on that thing....If/when I ever start on my top cab, I'd like a quad of the G12H's myself. The 65's are kinda like Greenbacks, but I feel I've got those covered with the EVH cab...

Just to be honest, I'm not a big fan of the V30 myself. I know they're the most used speaker on the planet (I'm assuming), but I just can't get along with 'em as much as other speakers...

Well dude, you never know, you might find a nice used something-or-other for about $500...It's too bad you have to use it at GC, $500 in cash could get a lot of different things at pawn shops...

I know. 500 free dollars is awesome. But I have to use it by the 22nd at a GC. I've been scouring their used online section for three days and haven't found anything I just gotta have. So I'm hitting four of them today and we'll just see what happens.

That's a pretty good problem to have :)

Good luck, happy hunting, I hope you find something awesome!

if I had 500 bucks to spend at GC, I would get a Ibenez tube screamer tube amplifier head. A tube amp with a built in overdrive. They are so cool, and sound fantastic!
A used one goes for $230 or so at gc. I would also get a kick drum mic. the rest I would buckle and dime away in strings and 9ther small stuff

Well I'm back.....and that was a total bust!

Long story short, I still have the Angus SG and the 500 GC dollars. :laughings:

Online shopping, here I come.....

You know it's hard to spend just $500 when you've gotten used to buying "big" items dude. A few years ago, I'd never had said that, but since my tone quest has taken me from the smallest/cheapest amps, to some expensive (for me), there's really no turning back....

I forgot to tell you guys, I did buy something musical this month, I splurged about $12 on 4 batteries for my Snark tuner...The original had lasted about 2 years, but was so weak I couldn't even see it in a dark room. Popped a new battery in, problem solved...Those 4 batteries should last me quite a while...Big spender over here this month!!!!:D

Lol. So I just spent like 2 hours piecing together bits and parts to make 500 dollars exactly. I got...

Some big ol Pedaltrain Classic 2 pedalboard with a flight case
Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ power supply
Jet City A/B/Y box
Electro Harmonix Silencer 2 in/2 out noise gate
A bunch of patch cables for various shits

Grand total...$499.96
My cost...$0.00

Woohoo!

That's cool dude, I'm sure you'll find a use for all of it. I've heard those Voodoo Lab Pedal power things are great, I almost pulled the trigger on one a couple years ago, but I don't have enough pedals to justify it, so I backed out. I've got even less pedals now, I have a grand total of 2: the SD-1, & the Danelectro vibe, but really, I don't need any pedals, I can use all the fx in the daw, & they'd sound better, plus I'd have total control over 'em all...

One thing I have been looking at a lot lately is a wah pedal. I can use the vst versions ran through my amp, & they do sound alright, but I'm sure they don't sound like the real thing....Something else is a Rocktron talkbox. The software versions of these things suck ass, I could probably get by with a vst wah, but the vst talkbox doesn't cut it...

My current pedalbord is a cheapo SKB self-powered thing. It's been good, but it's getting pretty beat up and the jacks that power the pedals are getting loose and noisy. It's gig bag is falling apart. And it's cramped. I don't even use these damn pedals very often, but I want everything sturdy, organized, and with clean dependable power. It's all pretty standard stuff. The amp switcher is something I've been wanting for a while, and the gate will be good for my single coil guitars. It's all basic shit. Tuner, two overdrives, flanger, phaser, delay, tremelo, wah, EQ...and now a gate and A/B/Y box. And I'll probably put The Rat on there too now that there will be room for it. There will probably be room for the big Ross flanger too. Fuck, that's a lot of shit.

I used to just do it in the DAW, but I've adopted a "track it and live with it" philosophy towards guitar effects, and it's very liberating. I've even gone so far as to track stereo amps with the flanger just so I don't have to use a stereo flanger plug-in. Is the plug easier? Absolutely. But fuck that. I want everything as real as I can have it. And a flanger feeding two amps sounds cool as shit. It'll make you seasick. :D

You should get a real wah. They're a lot of fun. Manipulating sustain and feedback with a wah is wicked fucking awesome.

If I were a gigging guy, I could see having a pedal board dude, but for what I do, it's really not necessary, in fact, it'd be overkill for me. The 2 pedals I do have I rarely use 'em, although I do like the vibe pedal (it's so much better than an emulation in the daw), but it's not something I'll use a lot, just once in a while...The SD-1 could be used on the blue channel of my little amp, but honestly, that amp sounds great without any help...

I get it dude, but I've got a bunch of presets I've made for myself as starting points for chorus, delay, flanger, etc., & honestly, they're way more versatile than a pedal. I do get what you're saying though, commit to a sound & move on...

I plan on it before too long, I also plan on getting one of those Rocktron Banshee talkboxes. To me, those are 2 of the effects I just cannot emulate in the daw, no matter how much work I put into it. The wah isn't as bad as the talkbox, & I could get by with the vst thing, but a real one would definitely be much better...

I had big plans when this $$$ thing started, but reality set in & being on a fixed income sucks (obviously), but it's way better than no income...A little at a time dude, I've got a lot of shit in the past few months than I'm more than happy with, & consider myself lucky to have all I've got...

I think that you'll be happy with the pedaltrain + pedal power combo. A little drilling and you can mount the pedal power underneath the pedal board. Mine came with instructions and a mounting bracket even. It's a great set-and-forget power system that should serve you well for years to come. And the price!

Miner, I think you've got a sweet setup going. It suits you well, and sounds awesome to boot!

Miner: I just picked up a Crybaby 535Q on craigslist for $90. The thing doesn't even have a scratch on it. Used it at my last gig and it's great. They are worth having around. In fact, I have 4 at the moment. I'll probably unload one of them soon. I have an 80's Morley that I bought new and an early 90's GCB-95 that I got for $20. If you want one, let me know. The one I'll be selling is only 4 or 5 years old and I'd happily work with you on it.

Greg: Well done on your purchases. Looks like you filled a lot of holes that needed filling. I'm kinda in the same boat. I have a couple of gift cards where I could save up a bit and maybe get a lower priced guitar (I really don't need anymore guitars at the moment) or I can go to guitar fetish and buy a bunch of parts and pieces that I need (and way cheaper). I have the luxury of patience, however, as my gift cards don't have expiration dates.

And while I have your attention: in the early 80's I bought a Les Paul Gold Top copy (I think I paid $30 for it) with a bolt on neck (stamped Made In Japan) with what almost looks like a lawsuit headstock with the name Edison in Gibson script. It never really sounded right (like a typical hollowed out cheap knockoff, in fact) but I really like the look of this thing. So I figure a set of strings, some tuners (from Guitar Fetish) and a cheap set up pickups (also from Guitar Fetish for a grand total of $60) might bring it to a condition I can use. If not, I can use the pickups and the tuners on another guitar anyway.

And there's nothing like a live stereo rig. I used to use my Twin and Bassman at the same time and used a bit of stereo chorus (just the tiniest amount to give it some space) and wow. Of course it doesn't work as well in small rooms but when you have the room, wow!

Thanks Bill. I aint gonna lie, your clips have got me a little interested in a Bassman head, so I was hoping to stumble across one yesterday. Lol. But it wasn't meant to be. I need to do more research on them anyway. I know they came with many different circuit tweaks.

I did fill some needs and satisfied some wants that were never really priority enough to do something about them. So I think I did pretty good. Turns out didn't have to leave my house at all.

The highlights of yesterday's outing were very few. It was a good time, as always, but I didn't see or play anything spectacular. Since most of these shops don't usually have any Marshalls I like, I'm more and more plugging into AC30s and cranking them. What a great tone. I wouldn't mind an AC30 head. And I love the tremolo circuit on those things. The winning amp of the day was a Friedman Brown Eye...again. My buddy and I can't go to this particular GC without fingering the Brown Eye. That amp KILLS. But at $3800, it better.

I spent some time with an ebony Flying V. Nice guitar. I liked this one because it was a "Pro" version, which means it had either 57s or Burstbuckers in it. Not sure which, but it wasn't those horrid 500Ts. Sounded great. JDOD likes to sit and play, the Flying V is the WORST sit-and-play guitar ever. But it sounded awesome through that Brown Eye.

But I finished the day with no GAS and no stupid impulse buys, so I did good. :D

actually .... you just put the two prongs on each side of your right thigh .... it doesn't move

I tend to play for hours - I need a comfortable chair.

Standing is for playing live.

I really haven't played an amp in a shop that I've liked more than mine lately and I've tried loads of them. Gotta try miners amp next time I'm shopping.

Lol. I know, that's how I did it, like a classical guitar. I just don't like it like that. I put a strap on it and stood up like a man. :D
