I like your strat's color man, & I prefer a maple neck on one myself...but, I also think a white pickguard & p'ups would look better...that's just me though...

I know it probably goes against everything of your entire existence, but your strat can cop some nice tones there Greg, you've just gotta give it a chance & play around with it some dude...

Here's my Squier cheapie:

My ex-girlfriend bought this thing for me last year for about $75...It still had the plastic wrap shit on the pickguard, & is actually not terrible, especially since it's so cheap...

And here's my MIM, the first guitar I bought when I got back into playing (and the recording bug bit me) a few years ago:

I like the blue on that one.

I used to use my red Strat a lot for recording when it and an Epi SG was all I had. It did fine, and was a good compliment to the SG. I'd usually do a rhythm track with each and pan em out wide. Sounded fine to me. But then the LP showed up and rendered them all obsolete. I never liked the Strat very much but it was adequate. Now that I've got a stable of much better stuff, it sits on a stand.

I found a possible culprit for some of that flubbiness. The tone on my SD1 was rolled over to the left a fair bit

Blue is my favorite color man, I almost got my LP in blue, but thought it looked weird with the butterscotch parts, so I got the desert burst instead. I'm kinda glad I did because I really like my Lester, & if I'd gotten the blue one, it might have been a dud...

That guitar, like your strat has a lot of sentimental value. I'd never sell it, even if you can buy a new one for about $400. That guitar is the one that got me back into playing after about 6-7 years of not even touching one. It was a reward to myself for getting my shit together a few years ago. I bought that guitar & a Line 6 Spider Valve 2x12 combo....hahaha

I actually need to break that guitar back out. While it is bright, it's got a humbucker in it, & could most likely do some pretty decent rhythm tones that would be a little different from my usual LP tones...I've not even had it out of the case in a year or so now...

The little Squier I rarely use either, if/when I do, it's usually a light crunch thing. I've never had any luck with gain-y tones from a single coil. Too much noise/squeal/etc., but for those semi-dirty tones, it does an ok job...I'm sure better p'ups would help, but I'd probably spend more on p'ups than the guitar is actually worth...lol...

Hey, I aint doing the whole song! Lol. Just some Strat + Plexi solo tone first. Maybe if it's not a total disaster I might give it a shot, but I don't know. I'm sure I could drum it, bass it to death, maybe do a hatchet job at best on the guitar, but singing it would be silly. :D
I'll sing it for ya' if you do it.

I know you could do a great job on it which is why I'd love to hear it!

I NEVER use either of my strats ....... if I'm not using my Stinnett I'll use my Zak Wilde paul or my tele ..... dunno why I don't use the strats ..... I used to but they never seem to call me anymore.

Too much talk, not enough tones. :D

Hey guys....Greg already heard this away from HR, and that's probably all the ears I need. But since I already posted this in the Tone thread while I was still putting it together a few months back, I figured I might as well post the finished tune.

Let me know what you think.

Hiya mate..good holiday?

Fucking hell, RAMI. that's great. So different to last time I heard it.

Like those strats, Miner... My first guitar was a '96 Fender Lonestar strat. Black with a pearloid pickguard...pearly gates plus HB in the bridge and Texas special SCs in the middle and neck position. Rosewood fretboard and block saddles, not the chincy "vintage" saddles. That thing got played so much that it just fit my hand...and then it was stolen when the house was broken into and there's been an empty space in my musical soul ever since. The 4 strats I've got now help fill that void but they just aren't the same as that sweet, perfect piece of gear.

With that being said, I'd like to actually contribute to the thread of tone... Is it difficult to set up a dropbox so I can put snippets in for review? I'm not a complete tard but I've never done the dropbox thing and I can't remember my login to my soundcloud (another thing on my long list of things to take care of).

Just use the "attachments" function on this site. Click "reply to thread", click "go advanced", click on the icon with the little paperclip and upload an MP3 directly from your computer. Dead easy. :)

Thanx a lot, J. Yeah, it evolved I guess. Having real drums and vocals on it probably helps, too. I always track my drums second to last, after all the other instruments and right before vocals.

Hey RAMI - great tune. Nice arrangement. Sounds "pro". lol

Cool. Thanx Sky.

Wow. It's really inspiring to hear what can be done in home studios. This sounds like it was recorded in a pro studio. And the song is really well written.

Great stuff!
Really? Seriously, I appreciate that. I'm not trying to be false-modest, but I thought this might be a weak tune. It's so hard to "hear" your own songs as if someone else might hear them. By the time I get to finishing a tune, I almost hate it. I really appreciate that.

I know exactly what you mean. I usually end up hating my songs before even finishing them. That's why I've got like 90 projects, but hardly ever finish anything.

But yeah, really dude. It sounds awesome.

Really, thank you.

I've got a Stones cover going on in the MP3 Clinic, in case anyone wants to check that out, too. If it sucks....well, it's not my song. :D

Thanks man, they're not high-end guitars at all dude. The black one is really cheap, cost about $75 at the local pawn shop, the blue one was bought new, IIRC, it was $300 or so...But there's just something about a strat's tone I like. It takes a little time to dial their tone in, but I still like 'em, always have, probably always will...

It sucks when you have something taken from you like that, even more so when you're attached to it. Been there & done that, thanks to my wonderful ex-wife #1...

Dropbox isn't hard to set up man, & to be perfectly honest, I'd rather people use that, because I have to download the clips if you use the forum's upload thing. I mean, it's not a big deal, it'd just be better for me if I didn't have to download 'em...

Nitzinger!!

I like this .... funky as usual .... glad to see ya' back!

I haven't read back the last day or so's posts but saw this & thought Greg needed a laugh...

Song sounds great RAMI...that's what I expected, but this one seems to be a little better all 'round dude, super job!!!

Welcome back!!!

RAMI, can you post up what amp/mic combinations you used? How you placed your mics, what you did with panning/reverb etc? And explain why you did what you did!

This would be generally helpful when people post mixes that are genuinely shit hot as it would give the rest of us good ideas as to what techniques we could use, what things may work in what situations etc.
