Hi,

I'm trying to create my own home studio. I have two NT1-A rode microphones and I have the focusrite Safire 6 USB audio interface. I also have a mixer and a PC. I have the correct wires to attach the microphones to the interface.

My question is I need to buy some studio speakers. Can anyone recommend any which will attach to my audio interface and what adapters will I need as I know there as specific ones, (I'm new to this).

I was thinking of buying the mackie cr4 multimedia monitors pair as these seem an affordable price and are studio speakers. Does anyone know what adapter/adapters I would need to attach these studio speakers to my focusrite Safire 6 USB audio interface??

Hope someone can help as I am new to all this!

You can use standard RCA ended cables from what I can see. Or balanced TRS. And normal speaker wire to bridge the two speakers. But I'd rethink getting a 4 inch monitor if I were you. Bit small...

No, don't get those Mackies. Props to them, they look like very superior PC speakers but considering the quality of the microphones and the AI, save for better.

For now a set of headphones will do, even the cheap Sennheiser HD202s are quite acceptable. Then, do you have any other audio repro' equipment handy? A modest hi fi system can be used, if in the same room run the Saffire into the HF tape or AUX inputs. If in another room and it has a CD player, burn a few "mixes" and run those (a cake of CDs is peanuts these days) Many modern audio systems have a USB port for a stick (if you don't yet have any USB mem' sticks, get some! Most handy) You would just export the audio as a .wav file or you might have to make it MP3, in which case set the encoder for the best possible quality.

Hi Dave,

Thankyou for your advice and knowledge it has been very helpful. I don't have any other equipment but I definitely will get some :) I will definitely do that thankyou!

Would you be able to recommend any studio speakers? You put to save for better , but I'm not sure what better ones they are. Can you recommend any? And do you know what adapter I would need to use to attach the studio speakers to the focusrite Safire 6 USB audio interface? Thankyou

Thanks for this information it was been very helpful :) can you recommend any studio speakers and the adapter I would need to attach it to focusrite Safire 6 USB as I'm really not sure which ones to get! Thankyou

Does not really matter a lot which monitors you choose so long as they come from a good manufacturer. In no particular order...M-Audio, KRK, Tannoy, Adam, Dynaudio and several others...

The type of music you do has a bearing Zee'. My son for instance was interested in classical and jazz and so our Tannoy 5As were fine in our small bedroom "studio" (12.5x12x8.5ft). But if you wanted a thumping bass and high sound levels, go for a 6, maybe 8" woofer and a lot more power. Power and heavy bass COSTS of course!

Speaking of cost? VERY hard to specify but most here would agree I think that you will not find much of any accuracy under £200? In the States you will get more for less $$s (except maybe Tannoys!)
Whatever you see and like, run it past The Men here.

THEN! We must start to think about room treatment! A size of your room would be useful. Better a photo and a floor plan.

Dave.

Don't ask the same question in multiple places here. See the other thread you started.
