Have you decided on any speakers yet???

Still deciding between a G12-65 and a G12T-75 to go with a G12H-75 Creamback. I'm not so bothered about the extra money (like you say, I'll just get what I want, otherwise I'll end up losing out some cash overall) - I just want to be sure the cab is high enough wattage so I don't blow anything up, but I'd like the G12-65 as everyone agrees it sounds great. I'm doing lots of reading around just to be sure, but I think a 130W cab should be plenty, so I'll most likely get a G12-65. I probably won't order anything until I've got the amp for sure anyway, so I've a few days yet.

The only reason there's any indecision on my part is due to my paranoia about running a 100W amp through a 130W cab. I'm convinced the G12-65 is the better choice for the sound, going on what you say and my other googling around. I'm fairly convinced now that it will be safe, so I'm more than likely going to have a G12H-75 creamback and a G12-65 in my 2x12. I'll never be running anywhere near full volume and gain.

That's cool, I'm sure it will be fine. I wouldn't hesitate to do it if it were me. I run my 800 and my Plexi through my 100w Greenback/G12-65 4x12 cab all the time. Haven't nuked it yet....knock on wood.

That Creamback will overpower the G12-65 if you're listening to the cab out in the room. It's not a big deal since you're not gigging or anything, but just be aware of it. The H75 is a 100db speaker. The G12-65 is like 96 or 97 db. That's a big difference in loudness when the two are next to each other. I only bring this up because if you move your mic from one speaker to the other, the 100db speaker will track a lot hotter. You will have to adjust your pre to get them in at the same level. I didn't know if you are aware of that and don't want you to think something is wrong. It's totally normal. A 100db speaker is just simply louder than a 97 db speaker.

Yeah, I did notice that. I think I have the same difference in the speakers in my cab now.

I also thought about running two 97dB speakers so it's a bit quieter.

I have been surprised before but I really do think it's unlikely.

Check it out. This is the Jubilee and 8x10 I've been using at band practices. I'm starting to warm up to this amp. I didn't like it much at first, and I'm still not crazy about it, but it's really not that bad. I would NEVER in a billion years buy one at the stupid prices these things go for. I wouldn't buy one period, but it's at least fun to get to know one of these overhyped "legends" of the Marshall world. I'm pretty used to it now. I must admit it's midrange is pretty badass, but this amp is probably the LEAST versatile amp they ever made. Lol. Three "channels" and none of them jive with each other. You have to just pick one and run with it. It sure looks great though.

Next week I'll bring my JCM 800 to play again through that same cab and realize once again that the Jubilee is a snoozer.

Thanks Bob - that's reassuring. It's great to get opinion from youse guys with experience who I trust on this stuff. You can read all sorts about this stuff that can't possibly be all true!

So, I think I'm set on the H creamback and a G12-65 - it's gonna sound totally badass.

I saw the new Silver Jubilee reissue was coming out - they look really cool in the pictures - it's a shame they're a bit of a dud.

The reissue is a 100w model. The one I'm using is a 50. The 100w should probably sound better? I would think so. At the volumes we play I've got this thing pretty wound up and it's got no more headroom.

I'm definitely in the minority by thinking they're not that great. Most Marshall enthusiasts think they're like holy grail amps for reasons I simply cannot understand. Everything about them is just okay to me. None of it blows me away. The cleans are okay, the crunch is okay, the overdrive is okay, it's all just okay. None of it is WOW! How is an amp thick and fizzy all at the same time? I don't know, but the Jubilee sure can be. Most of the people that like them are buttrockers that can play much better than me, so maybe that's what it is.

Jonny: Like I mentioned before dude, I ran my DSL100 into a single, 25w Greenback speaker for months, without a hitch...Of course, I used the 50w setting, & I didn't crank it up, or the speaker would be toast, but you should be fine with the 2 speakers in your cab...

Greg: I dunno man, I've read a lot about that amp in the Marshall forum, & there are lots of people just like you that don't like the Jubilee...Of course, there are the fanboys who think it's the best amp in the world too, but I've read a lot of guys simply just don't like it...

Yeah me too! You can't fuck up with a JCM 800. It makes everything sound awesome.

As much as I love the Super Leads, and I really do, the JCM 800 is just perfect to me. It's perfect. I can plug any damn guitar into that amp without a pedal in sight and blow people's fucking heads off with raw rock and roll fury.

But they wouldn't accept that without me installing it and putting strings on it to see if it would settle.
So i freakin' had to ream the tuner holes .... install tuners ..... install the neck ...... string it up ...... let it settle .... it sucked just like I said so now I undo all that work and do it all over again whenever they send me a new neck.

Lol. I hate stuff like that. Just yesterday I was putting a stupid radiator in a stupid Jeep and the stupid new aftermarket radiator had a stupid different style drain valve that stuck out like 1/2" more than the original. That 1/2" made putting the new radiator in a total fucking nightmare. There just wasn't enough wiggle room so I had to move a bunch of other shit around to just get that last little bit of clearance. Fucking lame.

yeah ....... that kind of crap is irritating. I'll tell you sometime how my Nissan got ruined because aftermarket belts wouldn't work on it for some stupid reason.

but after having such stuff happen throughout your life at least you don't get mad anymore.

It's more of a "sigh" . ..... usually I'll stand there for a minute or two as my mind races thru all possible easy solutions and then when I don't find one it's "well crap ..."

Okay gents, the last stop on the JVM tour - OD2. This is, as the name implies, the second overdrive channel of the amp, but it's not necessarily another jump in gain. The available gain on this channel is the same as OD1. The only difference between OD1 and OD2 is that the mid voicing is shifted lower on OD2 for a more "modern" sound. Is it actually more modern? I don't know. It is slightly different. Supposedly the mids are centered around 800hz on OD1, and around 500hz on OD2. What all of this means to me is that OD2 seems a little tighter, a little more mid scooped, but not like metal scooped, and the higher gain settings are actually more usable because they're not going crazy all in the actual midrange. The JVM2 series amps use this OD channel as their own. If I was a high gain guy, I'd probably use this channel all the time. As it stands now, it pretty much never gets used unless I'm using my Hallmark 60 Custom Mosrite clone guitar. That guitar is so surftastically mid plonky that this mid-shifted OD2 channel actually pairs with it pretty well.

So here it is with the Les Paul like the others. I used the same settings that I did on the OD1 clips.

Green for me dude, I know that's contrary to most of what I play/listen to, but I think in a mix, the green clip would kick ass....Less gain in a mix usually has more clarity & punch, so I'm sticking to the green....

You're rubbing off on me Greg, I find myself using less & less gain in my songs dude....Been using the DSL a lot the last couple/few days, & I have to say it's a damn good amp...I bet you're right about me having a JVM, it'd be overkill for what I do....

Fuckin' winter time....I hate it...lol...We got about 8-10" of snow this week, & now it's gotten so cold, it's not gonna melt....ever...only good thing about it is I don't have to be anywhere at all, kinda like being on vacation again....

For me it's a Green/Orange toss up. Depends on what you want for a particular song - slightly less or slightly more gain. They both sound very good. Red was scooped to the point of almost sounding muffled.
