The pointy guitar bit is just a joke. But good mixes and stuff does matter. It's not elitism. I'm not talking about you, just in general. If someone tears apart a mix, and their own mixes suck, then you have to consider the source. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but not all opinions are credible. I could tell Lebron James how I think he should set up a pick and roll, but he'd be stupid to listen to me.
Another example, you make cookie monster death metal, or whatever it's called. Are you going to take the criticisms of say, some kid rapper seriously? If some teenage girl pop star said your guitar tones have too much midrange, are you going to go change everything because of that? No. You wouldn't. You have to sometimes consider the source.
I was joking as well and I get what you're saying. Keep in mind with me it's not so much that I wouldn't take someones advice seriously based on their genre of music or their opinion on my guitar tone, it has more to do with I'm not sure I would be able to figure out how to do it. I would be more likely to take the advice if someone game me a brief explanation on how to make the needed changes. My problem has always been not knowing how. So, I end up getting frustrated and saying fuck this shit it's done.
With the death metal stuff I go into it well aware that majority of people will not like it and that I will receive a ton of criticism. When I was working on my last project I took everyone's opinion into consideration and tried a ton of stuff you guys recommended and still wasn't able to figure out how to make it any better. We all learn as we go
