I imagine your flared trouser legs were flapping from the power of this one. The bottom end doesn't seem to have translated to the recording though.
Sounds great except for aforementioned lack of bottom end.
I see the volume comes from the guitar.
It'd be excellent in a mix I know.

man ..... I can't believe I'm saying this but that sounds wimpy as hell .... I can sorta tell the amp is cooking but the mic ain't picking it up at all.

Lol. That's about as thin as the amp goes and the guitar is rolled off a little. I was listening to old Zeppelin and I was like "damn Jimmy page sounds like he's playing through a battery powered amp" so I wanted to see if I could do the same. Success! :laughings:

I spent my spare time making noise and obsessing over a mix tonight so I didn't get to catch up on toans. I'm curious about how a battery powered plexi might sound!

I can see you now with the star/sequined jumpsuit, making the duck-face while you're bashing out power chords dude...Lol...It's actually pretty close to that tone to my ears, and like Ray mentioned, it would sit in a mix really good...BUT, it just ain't got the balls your usual clips have dude, sounds like I've been over at your place & dialed the mic postition in....hahaha

I'll try to get you a couple/few G12H clips in the morning dude...FWIW, it's a good speaker, it's just different from the others I've got, which is exactly what I was after when I bought it...While the Greenback is still my favorite speaker, the '65 is gaining on it, I really, really like that speaker...

I wonder what Jimmy Page actually used in the studio for those early songs. I've heard he used pretty much everything you can think of, but I guess he's mostly known for 1959 Les Pauls and Marshall stacks, even though his recorded sounds rarely actually sound like that. Looking at the amp right now, I actually posted the wrong settings. The input vol is actually on 2. If I crank the amp up more I'm gonna lose that thin almost twangy kind of sound. Maybe I'll try the amp cranked up more but use the low input. Maybe a room mic too.

I think Page used a Supro on that first album ....... also in the studio he complained about a crappy Transonic amp he used sometimes. That's a Rickenbacker amp.

On that last clip what made it sound wimpy to me wasn't the tone.
It was the way there was no sustain ..... the amp just died away quickly on all the notes.

I guess it kinda ignores you if you don't push it. :D

I think I'll try it again with the PPIMV cranked so the amp acts like it's supposed to.

I wonder how it compares to the RAH pedal.

The RAH has a more harder/stiffer sound...but you can still dial in a variety of bass/middle/treble tones. It's like the notes have more "THUNK" to them, if that makes a y sense...which is the Hiwatt sound.

I've used it on a couple of songs lately, and it certainly stands out from the other OD pedals I have. You can crank the Gain up and get it real crunchy, but I like it where it's just breaking up and the more stiffer/harder sound, which really makes the notes pop lke crazy....so you don't need as much level to make the lead sit in the tracks.
I highly recommedn the RAH if you alreayd have a bunch of OD pedals and want something a little different. :thumbs up:

Here's a clip with Howard Gee, the pedal cicuit designer doing some LZ....and man he really nails it!

Ok Greg, here's a clip of the G12H for ya dude...I tried to set the amp where it'd be "neutral", almost everything on "5"...I didn't dime the amp this morning, to be honest, I couldn't handle it right now....lol...This might give you an idea of what the speaker sounds like, hopefully...

G12H for the Gerg

Yup, sounds good to me. That speaker is supposed to pair well with "Plexi" sounds.

Sounds good Minerman.
You have sooo many cool toys now. Start posting SONGS!!!!

Folks, may I have your ears & opinions?
I recorded another guitar track to my new ditty as I was attempting to address the "dark" nature of the recording.
I substituted a Sennheiser mic E60 something for the l'Grange mic.
There are two versions below.
One has the senn mic track straight up the middle of the previous version.

The 2nd has the Senn & the 57 (i recorded both) blended & on the right replacing a previous guitar track.

The mic was set up directly in front of the cone.
Does it add the necessary brightness?
Is it even necessary?
Does it improve the overall sound?

agd1954,
hello from a 1957.
I've just checked the links in the above post and they worked no prob. Hopefully it's an aberration.
