Thanks dude, I actually tried the settings you posted in your last clip, but it didn't have any bottom at all....It's the ISO cab dude, no question, but, I've still got the 4x12 which I'm sure will have a much fuller sound...I just use the ISO kinda like an ampsim I guess, little to no noise...I did mess with the mic position a little on this clip, it's not completely on-axis, pointed the mic at the cap/cone, then angled it toward the edge of the speaker a little...With the mic straight on the speaker, it was even brighter than the clip I posted, so mic placement with the ISO cab is a little different, as expected...

I'm gonna try my 4x12 like you did, about at tv volume & see how it sounds....I'll post it up in a little while...

Went to listen to the local bands, & I have to say....they sucked man...:facepalm:.Just terrible, terrible playing from them all, especially the drummer, he killed just about everything they attempted to play...They had some pretty nice gear, but not tight is an understatement....There's no fucking way I'd go out in public like that...You could tell they hadn't been playing together very long, but still....I know all these guys, & they're all much better musicians than what they did today (I played in bands off/on with about all of 'em years ago)...Stay in the fuckin' practice room/garage/whatever until it sounds good enough to play out....
 
Ok, finally got around to recording a clip with the 4x12, the power was off from about 11 this morning until about an hour ago, I think some drunk hillbilly clipped a power pole today....LOL....just kidding, but the power has been off...

This clip is kinda long, I used all 4 modes of the amp, plus boosted it with the SD-1, so there's like 6 different parts to it...All the eq settings are the same, except on the green channel, I turned the resonance completely off, & the red channel I dimed it...

The volume in the room was about like a loud tv, & I used the Behringer C1 mic just to see how it'd do...

Here's how the clips go in order:
clean, green crunch, green crunch with SD-1, od, od1 w/SD-1, od2

Signal chain:

Ibanez > SD-1 > DSL100 > 1960A (T'75's) > C1 mic

SD-1:
Level:10
Tone: 4-5
Drive: 0

DSL100:

Resonance: 0(green channel) & 10 (red channel)
Presence: 6
Bass: 10
Mid: 8
Treble: 6

green channel gain: 10
green channel vol: 1-1.5


red channel gain: 2-3
red channel vol: 1- 1.5

No eq or anything in the daw, just the raw clip this time...

I like em all except for the OD2 part at the end. It's good, but just too much for me. They all have nice balance and clarity. I still think the the resonance is a little much on the OD sections. But it's all good.
 
Thanks dude, I'd say on the red channel the resonance could be set to noon, & left alone...It's way too much on the green channel though, it makes it sound flubby in the low end...

On the last part of that clip, all I did was push the OD1/OD2 button in, that's it....The DSL has a crazy amount of gain on tap....That was with the gain on 2-3, it's just too much even for me past that....


Can't wait to get the new amp dude, pretty fuckin' excited about it to say the least....I'm really curious to how it'll compare to your super lead, tone-wise....It should kick ass though, I'm hoping it will anyway....that's what sucks about living where I do, it's the ass-end of the world, there's nothing here at all, & everything I buy is blind, I can't try anything worth a fuck out beforehand....
 
I don't even know if/how we could compare them. I certainly don't get the most out of my amps. Lol. I mean, I get the most volume probably, but as far as really exploring and showcasing what they can do, I'm probably the worst for that. I think you're a better player than I am with a wider variety of style and influence, so I'm sure you'll make that Chupacabra sing for all it's worth. You'd make my Super Lead sing for all it's worth. Lt Bob would probably blow both of our minds to pieces. I just make everything sound the same. :laughings:
 
Well, I know the Chupa is a modded version of your amp, but it's supposed to have about the same circuit with the era switch to "regular" plexi or whatever....I dunno man, I just hope that fuckin' amp has the "bonk" & "kerrang" I've been after for the last 2-3 years, you know??? Look at all the shit I've bought & tried trying to get "that" sound....LOL...I know the tone chase is never-ending, but damn dude, looks like I could find a close version/variant of "that" sound...hahahaha

And, I don't get the most out of my amps either dude, really, I don't....I've found no matter what I plug into, I still sound like me...When the shitty band got done yesterday, I hopped on stage & fucked around with a strat with lace sensor p'ups ran through a Carvin V3M (50w head, switchable to 15 & 7w) through a Carvin 2x12 w/V30's, & while it did sound pretty damn good (it was pretty loud, had the feedback thing going), I still sounded like me....LOL...I could've sat in with those guys, & I'm pretty confident I could've pulled my end off pretty easily (even after all these years of not really playing), I just couldn't make myself get up there & make an ass of myself...there were only about 40-50 people there too....Most of 'em remembered me from back in the day though, & were asking when my band was playing....LOL..

I'm no player dude, I used to be, but not anymore....I've been on the sidelines too long now, I'm just a hack...I bet Lt. Bob could smoke both of us, as he plays everyday, day in, day out...

Maybe we could do a clip thing where everything is set to "5" on both the amps, & use the same mic, speaker, etc.....I know it still wouldn't be the same, but, maybe we could get an idea of how close these amps are....just a thought....

I do know when I get the Chupa, I'm hooking it up to my 4x12 & cranking it up though....even if I wake the neighbors, & get the fuckin' cops called, I'm doing it.....:laughings:.
 
Sounds really good MM. There'd be some EQ needed to fit a bass in with the crunch stuff.

Yeah it's got some bottom to it, but I'd rather have bottom & need to carve it out to fit the mix than have no bottom & it sound thin/weak, like my tones usually do.....

For a cheap mic, the Behringer C1 is actually pretty good...It can't hande the SPL like the '57, but it does a good job at capturing the whole spectrum IMHO....It works great with my 1w amp, that's the whole reason I bought it, to use in my ISO cab with the 1w Marshall....And, I'd thought about getting rid of the 'lil Marshall, but, I'm gonna keep it....the Egnater is gone though, no doubt about it, if I can't trade or sell it by the time I get my Thanksgiving vacation, I'm making a trip to GC in Knoxville to trade it off on something....It's a good little amp, & does a pretty good job of sounding like a Marshall/Vox/Fender, but my big amps blow it completely away....For that matter, the 1w Marshall blows it away....It was just a cheap, low-watter to get me by until I could get something else really, & that's all....

I don't doubt for a second that the Chupacabra will give you that hairy 80s sound you want. That's what they do. I've said it several times already, I think the Ceriatones are fantastic clone amps. That's just my opinion, but the ones I've heard have been stellar. As far as it being close to a "real" Super Lead....who knows because even real Super Leads can sound drastically different from one another. Some are dark, some are bright, some have more gain than others. During the heyday of the Lead/Super Lead, Marshall was changing shit all the time. Even consecutive serial numbers could sound wildly different from each other. That's just how they were. As long as you're in the ballpark, you'll be fine.

I listened to a bunch of clips of that amp again last night, & I really think it's gonna deliver....of course the 80's hair metal thing, but on the "regular" plexi side too...Heard some clips of a guy doing Zeppelin, AC-DC, & it sounded really close....Of course, there's a lot that can affect the tone (player, speakers, p'ups, etc), but again, I'm getting more confident the Chupa will deliver what I've been after....

I'll find out in a few days.....:).

Cool Greg, both the rhythm tracks sound great on their own, in the mix they kill...can't get into the lead on it's own, but like the rhythm tracks, it's great in the mix dude....

Finally got something to come up on the UPS site, the amp's supposed to be here Thursday, which is about what I figured....no biggie, as long as it arrives safe, sound, & ready to rock....

Bought a digital meter & some alligator clips today, getting ready to tear my amps apart...:facepalm:. I've got it all figured out thanks to the Gerg though...should be pretty easy to bias either one, I'm pretty confident about it....watch me get electrocuted now....:laughings:.

Damn if it didn't do some fuckin' raining on the way home, I thought I was gonna have to pull over a couple times, & that's bad...But I made it, only thing now is the storm seems to have followed me home, & keeps knocking my internet out (I've got 'net on a dish...)...

Gonna go shower, eat, & see what time it is, might fire the amp up with the ISO cab....

Dying to play the Chupa, but patience grasshopper, patience....LOL....
 
I LOVE the noise track - particularly the shoooooooop sound as you pull out and the flanger keeps going.
L rhythm sounds great & the right wins for me on the chugga bits.
Great mic blend.
NO headphone bleed or pick noise at that volume I note.
 
Thanks guys. The lead track, I hesitate to even call it a lead, really is just semi-controlled noise. Some sloppy bends and wah flanger feedback. I really like the rhythm tracks myself. I think they came out pretty awesome. The roar of the Plexi track arouses me in my private parts a little bit. I like it. Them is some loud amps. What I lack in skill and detail I make up for with loud. :D
 
It does sound great man, all your mixes are pro-quality to me dude....Btw, in your opinion, what's "the" drum sound??? I know I've asked so many questions about your drums, but just wondering, what is your favorite drum sound (artist/song/album/whatever)????

I don't have a favorite drummer or drum sound. I'm probably the only drummer on earth that has no interest in legendary drummers or their sounds. Drums are probably the hardest instrument to record well, and the recorded drum sound is very dependent on so many factors. Any drummer that plays for the song and sounds good is okay with me. If I just had to choose a favorite drum sound from an album, off the top of my head I'd probably have to say "Back in Black". Everything on that album sounds fucking awesome to me. The drums are fat and punchy. And believe it or not, I like the drum sounds on Green Day's "American Idiot" album. They're probably all sample replaced, but it sounds damn good. There's also this punk rock record label called Fat Wreck Chords. Every band on that label sounds pretty much the same, but I really like the way they do the drum production for the bands on that label. I don't know who's behind it, but the drums are always fast and punchy for most of those Fat Wreck bands..

For my own style and sound, honestly, I can barely play drums. I'm adequate at best for the music I play. The only pride I have in my drumming is that what you hear is 100% authentic. I don't try to be anything I'm not with my playing. I'm just lucky enough to have the motor skills to be able to bang out what I hear in my head and I'm able to make an okay drum recording.

There is more than a little Mick Ronson influence there intended or not. He was a great all-around musician - he always served the song - but some of his more memorable bits were just like that.
