Nice! Enjoy. I bought my 000 sixteen years ago. I still smile every time I open the case.
That's why you save every penny you can spare and remain diligent in not spending it or living outside your means. If you drink, smoke or do anything that is essentially a waste of money like going to the movies or buying fast food, stop... Stop or at least save it for special occasions. Work out instead because exercise is free lol. Then you can get what ever guitar you want and it'll mean much more to you because you'll have really earned it and wanted it so bad for so long you can taste it. Envision yourself playing your new guitar every day to keep you motivated. Tell yourself you'll never get it and you probably never will...
Ah yes. I know the problem. I've done the same thing quite a bit and have owned at least 40 to 100 different guitars in my life time. Not exactly sure how many guitars I've owned. And it's funny because when I rationalized things it was the exact opposite. I concluded I would rather own one super nice guitar than to own 10 crappy guitars. I bought a few beat up acoustics on Craigslist too just to have something to play until I could get a much nicer guitar, didn't pay over 40 for either and sold them both over the weekend. If you can find a guitar that makes you earn to play it you'll be doing yourself a favor because your abilities wont be limited for very long when you just can't seem to stop playing your guitar.
Acoustic. Meh.
Damn.I never realized you were are all "rational" and stuff.
I think you're right about guitars. I own a Les Paul and Strat, if I get another Guitar it will be probably be a nice as hell acoustic like yours.
I do have a bit of a sickness for wristwatches, however, and that is where I can see the other side; I've got the stomach for $300 watches all day
long, but the idea of buying a $3000 Sinn U2 doesn' even register with me. So I have a whole bunch of cool watches and can't ever decide which one I want to wear today.![]()
Nice going, you picked a good one. I've had my D-41 for about 4 years now, and it is still my prized posession. Finding the right acoustic is one of life's true satisfactions.
I know what you mean. Saving for the best equipment, while playing junk is a lot of fun, but I've been lucky. I've only owned one acoustic (a Yamaha with really great playability) and I never get tired of playing it. I've only been playing guitar for about 5 years now (my brother is awesome, and I never needed to learn til I moved 3000 miles away from him). I was a bass player and started out with a P-Bass body I scavenged at a concert. (bass was smashed onstage and thrown to the crowd). The electronics were junk and I had no neck, but for $100 in parts and a brass nut my dad machined out of an IH sheer pin I had one killer bass (for a 13 year old.) Played that bass for 12 years before replacing it with one of the original Swedish built Headways. Now I've got an acoustic/electric 5-string and I love it to death, but never did save up for that alembic I always wanted....
Congrats on a great guitar. Played with one in GC at Spokane years ago, and the action was amazing. I believe the one I played was a D35 though and it was something my brother was looking at purchasing...![]()
Very cool. Rated "Flood" on the "Drool" scale.
I ws shopping for an acoustic a few years ago and was back and forth between Martin and Taylor. It's a tough call, ain't it. I went with the martin, though without the high drool factor.
Congrats!!
I wouldn't pay over 10 dollars for a watch. I'm the type of guy who spends a lot of time thinking about it. I would hate to waste $300 dollars, much less $300 dollars X10 on a bunch of "nice" watches. In the back of my mind I'll be wishing I bought the $3000 dollar watch. So, I would rather save the money and just put out for the real deal than to fuck around with a bunch of bullshit watches. And you know that when people see you wearing the $3000 dollar watch they'll be thinking "damn home boy got class", but no one is going to notice the $300 dollar watch, unless their dirt poor and think it's the shit lol. To me they are treasures, what others think doesn't matter...
This is right. My point was that I am not attracted to real expensive watches, I like the watches that I own. Also, I couldn't care less what "Homey" thinks when he looks at my wrist. I just want good pedestrian Swiss or Japanese movements in water and shock resistant cases that appeal to me visually. The fellow who owns several "lesser" guitars is the same as you and I. He is just pursuing the hobby in his own way.
I, myself, would purchase pretty much any guitar based pretty strictly on how it plays and sounds, paying extra for fine finishes or inlays wouldn't do much for me. I almost ended up with a Les Paul Studio for $800 for this reason, but it just didn't quite do it for me.
But again this is all personal preference, and it is "all good." The important thing is to keep in mind that it is a hobby and the only thing that really matters is whether you are deriving satisfaction from it.
I will admit, that is one real swell acoustic guitar, I would love to hear how it sounds!
.... As long as you are not hanging out with a super cheapo, if you pay your dues, you will get her to rattle and hum.
.
Hey FP, you mentioned that you got a steep discount.
Did you pay less than the guitar normally costs wholesale?
Did you get the good deal from making contacts while you were trying out guitars, or did it come from "out of the blue?"
I've set my imaginary upper limit for an acoustic guitar, and was curious how to go about getting the most for my money.
