SOLVED: Easy way to save only part of the record
Hello all!
I have found this question while I was trying to solve this problem on my Tascam DP24. I have several 90 minutes recordings(song file), which contains several authors performances from live exhibition. I ned to split this recording, to be able to burn it on the CD.
This is the simplest way, how to do it(tested on tascam dp24, fw 1.02, but shoul be the same for another models, too.):
Intro: My Tascam stores all the audio data on SD Card as a WAV files.
After connecting Tascam via USB, you can see directory structure as:
AudioDepot\
MUSIC\
MUSIC\SONG_0001\ZZ001_1.wav, ZZ001_2.wav,etc.
MUSIC\SONG_0002\ZZ002_1.wav, ZZ002_2.wav,etc.
...
Utility\
The trick is based on proper timing

.
Eg, I have 90 minutes recording. Now I have to record eg. first 10 minutes into file.
1. You just need to MARK IN and OUT part of the song you want to MIX-DOWN into stereo track
2. RECORD it (this will create master file, which can be only one for one recording)
3. add effects in MASTERING to this master file.
Repeat steps 1-3 until you are happy with the results for one part of your record.
OK, here comes the most important part:
4. connect tascam to your PC viac USB
5. activate USB connection on Tascam
6. browse to tascam mass storage in you PC(sdcard connected via usb)
7. copy file \MUSIC\SONG_XYZABC\Song_XYZABC.wav to you PC as eg. TRACK1.wav (this is the final master file with applied efects from the mastering stage)
8. you can also copy file \MUSIC\SONG_XYZABC\Song_XYZABC_z.wav (look at the _z suffix, this is the original mixed-down stereo track file without applied efects in MASTERING stage)
9. safely remove Tascam mass storage
10. disable USB connection on tascam
Now, you can repeat steps 1-10, select another part of song and continue (your original recording stay untouched). When you are copying the file into your PC, select another destination file name, to prevent overwriting master file from previous part of your recording. When you have finished, you will have several wav files in your PC, which are ready to burn on CD.
Tested on Tascam DP24, fw 1.02.
Best regards,
Peter.
