It's illustrated in the manual (if you haven't downloaded it, do it now).

Adding the vst folder paths is in the Preferences.

yes. this applies to the envelopes question you asked at the reaper forum. as much as i hate reading the fucking manual, RTFM!

you just need to point reaper to the folder that those vst's are in. do you know how to do that? it's simple.

Yes, I do - from painful experience with DAZ Studio 3D Software. These programs rely on many resource folders in order to function - and they can be all over the place (until I organised them).

Still, for some reason the VSTs and generators I've been (repeatedly) pointing it at are not recognised - and this is a huge dissapointment. Without the instruments I have become so used to using I feel Reaper slipping away and that would be a shame because it is such a well featured and stable application.

At the time of writing, I could not open the manual without the browser freezing.

Try right-click > Save as... the manual is pretty big.

I'm starting to wonder though, are the synths in FL Studio locked strictly to that program? They might be..

As far as the 32/64-bit compatibility goes, REAPER has a built in bit-bridge allowing you to use either in both versions of the program.

That's very generous, I must say. I hope not too many people take advantage of their hard work...
I agree...I'm actually going to finally register my version of Reaper sometime soon.....lol

lol. it didn't even cross my mind to mention saving it to his hd. :laughings:

you're gonna wanna do that. when have it open when you're recording. when a question comes up, ctrl+f the keyword and read up.

Thanks, yes. After a few frustrating attempts, it dawned on me... Right click & 'save as'. Silly me...

Well, I'm gonna have to spend a lot of time evaluating it before I register because it's not as straightforward to use or as elegant as FL Studio (although it certainly looks nicer and I like the mixer better). I don't like the note editing in Reaper. So far, it seems very clumsy in comparrison. As a complete novice, I was writing music within minutes in FL and now, having to use Rewire to get my intruments in, is a pain in the arse. Maybe it'll get easier as I spend more time with it. Time will tell.

no offence doc (or to other fl studio users) but :laughings:

FL is like a toy DAW..its the clumsiest workflow, worst effects , or instruments, Ive ever tried in any DAW...even Energi XT is better and they can barely give that away..apart from the step sequencer any DAW, and especially Reaper, will reward you more if you take the time to learn it :o

Yeah MIDI editing still has a way to go. It has been getting quite a bit of attention lately though. I think the most intimidating part is the massive menus (luckily you can edit them yourself! Check out ReaMenus on the REAPER message boards. Good stuff :D)

Instead of ReWire, I believe you can also insert FL Studio as a VSTi on a track, which is pretty neat. Unfortunately, I never really got to trying it out. Just thought I'd mention another option :)

Wow, I just tried what you said. Thank you! Now I'm liking this...

I can only load one instance at a time but by bouncing after playing each instrument, I can then change the instrument on the MIDI track and record again, bounce again and so forth...

I'm not complaining because it feels rather 'analogue' doing it this way. At least it gets me into the habit of finishing one track before moving on to the next.

I did find one other thing I like: by setting up one track as a Rewire and another with the FL VST, I was able to play two instruments at once; bass and synth together - which was really cool.

None taken - and I'm not going to disagree with you, either. Though the thing about FL is it's very easy to set up loops and make instant tunes. Very good for the novice... I've learned a lot from using it.

I take back what I said about Reaper being clumsy - but I do still prefer the note editing tools in FL, which Reaper doesn't seem to have (unless I'm missing sumat here...?)
