Does this mix suck...METAL???

I just can't get with that papery kick sound. I know that's what the genre seems to go for but I'd take balls over paper any day. Guitars sound good to me. Bass could be more prominent, but I don't listen to much speed metal these days. Guess I should have said that at the start....:D
 
It sounds like a good modern commercial metal recording to me.
(There should probably be commas between my adjectives... Oh well.)
 
Hell no!

Just a little mookiness in the 125Hz area...a bit of woof. I drew back the 125 slider a few db...and it cleared things up.

Very powerful.
 
You're drums seem to lack power, to my ears. I think they could use a touch more compression and maybe some more overall volume. On top of that, maybe try experimenting with some reverb on your snare and toms. Anything to just give them so more life. As it is right now they are there, but don't give the song any life.

That's a very loud mix. I think the guitars probably sound good, but they're getting clobbered by all the squashing/limiting/clipping/etc..
 
you could also stand to benefit from making the overheads a little louder as well as the lead guitars.

Overall the mix sounds clean and everything, but it has no life. Sure it's loud, but it's dull and has no "live" feel.
 
I think it sounds pretty good, but I'm listening on my monitors and It sounds like you have a really bad resonant frequency in the bass or low end of the guitars (hard to tell)
 
Muffins is right. Make the overheads a bit louder. I'd also pan them in a little. It sounds weird for each cymbal to be on only one side (especially on headphones).

Defintley has a resonant frequency that makes it hard to listen to loud (100 - 200hz maybe?)
 
Not too shabby. The guitars could pack a bit more of a punch. It could be that some of the power is taken away by the volume of the kick drum... I say lower the kick a bit, get the guitars to bite more, and you'd have it!

By bite, in the guitars, I mean the sound. Your playing and performance is really top notch. The sound isn't too bad, either, but I've heard em' bite harder...

I say keep at it!
 
thanks for the listen guys. I have had a recent sciattic nerve injury couple with putting a 200 year old spike through my right foot so i have been out of commision for a bit. I am remixing with all of the suggestions and will repost for more analysis. Thanks again.

I realize the kick sound isnt for everyone, but it does sound like a modern metal type kick (lamb of god) so if that's what youre going for you nailed it.
