how to wire analog gear

i have a few adats,lots of rack efx,compressors,eqs, 8 input patch bay.and a 32 channel mixing console .whats the best way to wire it all? i need detailed instructions.willing to pay for a schematic on best way to wire it all. please email me direct at : strat1953@aol.com

Outs go into In's.

More specifically, effects are used on send's and returns.
Dynamics processing are normally used on your console's inserts.
Run your direct outs or buss outs to the ADAT.
Bring the tape returns into the B mix, tape returns, or another set of line inputs if you have neither of the former.

And forget the patch bay. For the amount of equipment that it sounds as though you have, you'll need around five to seven more...with 48 points each, front and rear.

Yup, line-out goes to line-in.

REALLY helps to sit down with a big piece of paper
(lots of 'em actually, cause you will change your mind a lot)
and DRAW OUT the connections from box to box.

Oh, KEEP THE DRAWING. Down the road, you'll forget what you did
and going back and trying to figure everything out is a real pain....

The owner's manual for your mixer might have a basic setup. You could start with that (I tookd the "Basic 8-track setup" in teh Tascam M-520 manual and started with that.)

As indicated, you need more patch bays, and get some china markers so that you can write down what is going on w/out it being permanent.

I have the buss outs going to the deck and to patch bay. Also, the effects I/O going to the patch bay, and tehn the aux sends/returns going to the patch bay the tape lin eouts going to tape in naturally, and lots of short cables. There isn't going to be one *correct* way to wire everything, just various degrees of convenient. Patchpays and cables can start to cost, so having ever imaginable permutation cabled for could be cost prohibitive. Having a plan ahead of time and wiring for the most common scenario helps.
