Greg_L mix contest/clinic/critique - just for shits and grins

Hey,

my try: Tims Texas Terror Mix

Had a lot of fun doing this, thanks Greg! Oh, I sent it through the BR-20 halftrack so it's mixed digital (Reaper), sent to tape and then sampled and converted to mp3.

I listened to all the mixes and liked those of pandamonk, Chili, PoeticIntensity (nice panning at the end of the track), philbagg and RAMI best. No particular order. The others had either too much reverb, too much lead guitar or too little separation in my opinion.

Been listening this evening. Some nice mixes and a few surprises. :D

I've got it narrowed down to 3 out of the 14 that I really like, but can't decide just yet. Any one of these three could win, but each one has something better or worse than one of the others. It's really close so far between these three.........:drunk:
 
I have to say I'm really having a tough time picking the winner. Man, it's so close. :o

I listened to most of the other mixes and I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one who had trouble with the snare. :D

i haven't even listened to the song yet. want me to be an objective consultant? i'll listen to the three(and only the three :p) and give you my opinion. do with it what you will.

That's not a bad idea. I'll let you know. There's definitely 3 good ones that I'm really having a tough time with. And the more I listen, there's a dark horse 4th that's trying to fuck shit up for the top 3.

it's a great idea. since i've never heard the song, and especially since i didn't write and record it, i can seperate the song from the mix.

and hang on, did you track everything? i think i read that users were gonna track vocals or something? :confused:

None of these mixes have vocals and I tracked everything else.

I might send you the top 4 without their names attached and you tell me what you think.

I'd hate to have to pick the best mix, but I'd say RAMI has the best drum sounds of any mix. Especially the snare. Care to share the secret drum sauce?
