A few years ago I aquired an Ampex ATR-700 in great condition. It came from a local radio station that was switching to an all digital format. They made 6 models of this deck and they came in low speed(3.75/7.5 ips) or high speed versions(7.5/15ips). Being from a radio station, the one I have is the low speed half track version (3.75/7.5 ips).

From what I have read, the high speed half track versions when run at 15 ips are pretty good mastering decks even though they are a less desired Tascam made product.

So to get to my point....

I want to know if I can modify this thing. To turn it into the high speed version so I can use it for mastering.

Any help or leads would be very appreciated.

p.s.

I have three extra manuals for this machine. I only need one. I would be willing to send them off for $25 bucks a piece if that sounds fair. They are the real deal original in great shape.

Just taking a stab at the question and I really am just guessing, but, I don't think it's a good idea. The extra load on the motors and things might prove to be to much. I don't know. You might give http://www.atrservice.com/
a look. They have their number on the site so you can give them a ring.
