How long does it usually take Tascam/TEAC to get back to you on inquiries? I emailed them well over a week ago about a 488mkii capstan belt and I haven't hear shit from them. Anyon have any idea how long to wait? Thanks guys.

Nate, it's actually best to call 'em with a CC in hand rather than rely on email. I'm just passing on what a few guys here said on dealing with the USA head office in CA. They're actually very good but the email thing is a hit & miss affair. ;)

I've dealt with them over the phone, they were pretty quick.

Yeah, its typically been days to respond when I email but you get a live person (and 9 times out of 10 its the same person I talked to the last time :D) so I usually just call. (323) 727-4840.

I was dreading hearing "oh this belt will cost you $34.99" not that that price would be too expensive, but for the holiday season....you know? They said "$9.80 + shipping." WORD!!!!

Thanks guys for all your help.

lol. they're still around? you guys and your crazy antiquated analog fetish.

I wouldn't call it a fetish. A fetish indicates something bizarre and unusual, something typically shunned or looked down on by society. Good sound is not so much bizarre or unusual or shunned .... well lately it has been, but that's another thing.:D

Na, that's eBay pricing.:D;)

Seriously, TEAC is always the best and usually cheaper place to shop. Not only that but you're always assured of the appropriate part. :)

You mean I'm in some sort of weird minority??

SWEET!!! :D

I would be dreading to hear "discontinued" It doesnt make sense they will still carry some parts for my MSR-24, but not a pinch roller! Duh!

Amen Brother!

Digital is to analog as a plastic blow-up sex doll is to a real woman.

And some of us just must have the real thing.

Unless you're a real woman and need a real man or... um... eh... you don't like men and need a real woman too. Well dammit! This analogy is really starting to fall apart. Never mind.
:p

Hi guys,

The last I'd heard (this was a couple of years ago) TASCAM was not providing support or selling belts for their older cassette four-tracks. My friend called to inquire about a new belt for a 234 and the rep. told him: "You're using antiques, buy one of or newer models.".

I just ordered a set of belts for my 246 from a place online. Oops, I guess the 488mkII is new enough that TASCAM still stocks the belts.

You've been misinformed. Next time talk to the PARTS department.

Yup-yup!

Until you talk to the source it doesn't make much sense to rest upon that which you think is fact.

Got a new set of belts and pinch roller for my 234 just earlier this year. Teac Parts department has always been great to work with for me and believe me I've ordered plenty of stuff from them in the last 2~3 years. ;)
