I really wanted pink. Mostly because pink really reflects who I am.... easy to get along with, never an unkind word for anyone, and I abhor excessively colorful language (especially on bulletin boards) ....yeah, pink would've been nice. :p

What a load of crap. This guy has been hammering AH with all kinds of expletives for two days now. No one should believe anything JTC says. Warm and fuzzy, he ain't.

I'm still hoping for dark bronze too. Will look nice and "industrial", rather than like a toy from china:D

Bronze anodized not look cheap?
In my "fashionable early 80's" house all the window sills, door thresholds, and sliding glass door frame are all anodized bronze.

I guess at least the preamps will match. lol

This is the color I'm talking about.

So our pres are going to look like crappy windows???
CHANCE!!! CHANCE, WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING???
I knew we should've gone with pink.

From American Heritage Dictionary:

sar·casm (sär'kăz'əm)
n.
1. A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound.
2. A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule.
3. The use of sarcasm. See synonyms at wit.

You do realize that I was commenting upon myself? So that makes it not just sarcasm, but self-deprecating sarcasm (a difficult medium to master). It was also a pure case of BB masturbation, but your response might've been a better definition of 'irony' than anything I could've come up with. :D

I still quite like that colour:p

I don't like all of the "colourful" audio gear much. It just looks like its meant to be a toy.

A little off the current topic, but I'm still a little disappointed about the ACM-300. I'm perfectly happy with the substitution of the ACM-200, but I just think the 300 looks cooler.

Yes, I was too. And to think, they tell me this AFTER the order was placed.
I stated I would replace it with the 200 or a refund. The cash value of the 200 would still be more than the refund. If you don't like it, you could easily sell it for more than your refund. The 200 is the mic that I used on that thin vox that I posted some time ago

Yeah, I was interested in the 300 for the pop filter (which I probably wasn't going to use much, anyway), and I was too much of a wuss to get 2 200's for stereo, so I suppose things worked out for me

Wow!! I just came by to check the thread... Geeze Louise!

All I know is I have 2 SP B1 mics that I will be getting the hell out of my studio and going on Craigslist. I also have wanted to get a Joe M*** (no ads for you Dickweed) Comp for the color but will be passing on that as well. There's SO Much gear out there to choose from... it will be easy to avoid anything by Alan's Co.

I do find it interesting and a little disheartening that we had been led to believe that these were Chances designs and then he says in the Mass Email " I didn't design anything."
BUT weather or not the ACM-310 was of his design, like he stated, I still love that mic and I'm sure I'll be lovin these Pres too.

Post #2203 "They had my finished mic pre and other gear, let me take them home, but I HAD to bring them back today. They sound GREAT."

"It broke my heart to have to bring them back today, but There is the cost of making gear from scratch."

Post #1761 "TnC compressor and Mic-pre unfortunately still under development." "I want to get it right before I have it manufactured."

post#2394 "With all respects to the good people at Presonus what is shown here is a prototype that I recieved and any resemblence is only in the outer appearence only. The circuitry is completely different."

I'm really sorry to see all the negative reactions to Alan Hyatt's posts here.

I know Alan pretty well, and I don't think he was calling anybody a liar or dissing the group buy. I believe he was trying to give everybody a heads up on the way 797 does business, and warn people that 797 doesn't always do what the customer wants.

Yes, Alan can come off harsh in posts, but please let me assure everybody that he's not trying to rain on our parade, or trash these new products. Alan is a pretty damn nice guy (for a New Yorker, anyway  ) and he really means well. In the years I've come to know him, I always found him to be honest, helpful, and he'll always "tell it like it is" (although you hafta remember that's filtered through his perceptions, just as we all do).

I now own some SP mics and a few Joe Meeks preamps, and I urge everybody here to just kinda chill out about this whole thing. I'm sure Alan didn't mean to try to kill anybody's enthusiasm for these new preamps; just give us a heads up as to what we really might get, based on 797's usual business practices. It's no biggie, people.

i have to say i agree with this. the way i see it, the manufacturer is behind this ruckus in one of two ways. 1) they immediately took chance's design (or retrofit or whatever you want to call it) and called it their own some ten months ago when they started working with chance. 2) we actually ARE getting one of their designs (someone mentioned CL).

either way, we'll be getting decent (at least) preamps for a STUPID price. if these ARE actually CLs, that's awesome, their stuff ROCKS. if these actually ARE chance's pres, then that's ALSO awesome. win/win here folks. it doesn't seem to me like alan is intentionally stirring up a ruckus. i'm sure he heard something from the manufacturer and posted what he was told. look, i'm stoked to know that we're getting these from 797. they're solid!

Harvey, with all due respect, he did call him a liar, flat out.

The last thing I want to do is argue with you, but you can read it for yourself:

Alan from post 514 on Gearslutz:
"Not to drive it home, they all said this is 100% designed by 797 audio, no prototype or circuits were sent to them, and no samples were ever sent out by 797 Audio for them to listen to... Ok, fine its still a deal, but they should not have said things they did, when they did nothing. I spoke to John MA today!!!! So here is what you will all get in a different color and Chances name..."

And the final remark in the post:
"As I said, just know where they come from and who designed them...not that it matters, but in the end, you all deserve to be told the truth, even if you bag on me for telling you...."

I really don't see how you could suggest otherwise.

believe it or not, i have heard rumours that a completely unknown man named Rupert N. designed this circuit.

Alan is not calling Chance a liar from what I can see. It sounds to me like Alan is saying that 797 told him that it's 100% their design. Alan is saying 797 told him that they did not put Chance's changes into these units and we should probably expect stock 797 units (which I will still love to death at these prices).

We'll hafta wait and see whether or not they incorporated Chance's changes in the units we're getting. Either way, as Alan pointed out, it's still a hellavadeal.

Now as to why Alan might have passed on these units. Pure speculation on my part, but I believe it's because he doesn't want PMI to be known as a "Me, Too!!" company, buying stock units from China with his badge on it. The SP mic line is unique and there are no "Me, too" models in their line. The SP preamps are also unique. The Joe Meeks and Malcolm Toft stuff, he owns the rights to; no knockoffs there.

If Alan passed on these, it was probably because he knew 797 would also sell these same units to anybody, with a different name plate on it.

From my understanding, and this is just what I've learned by over-hearing conversations, is the you can design any product and 797 Audio will build it for you. There is a minimum order, Alan H. mentioned 1000, and I've heard this number as well... BUT it doesn't stop there... There is another "magic number" which is usually 2000, that if you can purchase that many units you then get an "exclusive" on your item, that they manufactured...If you can't meet the 2000 mark within a 1 year period from the first order, 797 Audio can then re-sale/re-badge "your" product/design and sell to others...

Harvey, with all due respect, you have not read all the threads on all the boards or you wouldn't have said that. AH flat out says it. Unless of course "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is". :D If you need me to go find it and past it into this board I will, but I prefer not to.
