Yeah just give me a shout if you get stuck Mike.
Merry Christmas everybody.

Wozniak did not return to apple after he flew is airplane into the side of a hill in 1983. Jobs was not fired, he was removed from his position as head of macintosh by Scully supported by the apple board of directors in 1987 and in a fit sold all but one share of stock and went on to start NeXT. Apple bought NeXT in 96 and Jobs was given the CEO seat when they ousted Amelio, which gives him WAY more power than he used to. Gates poured money into apple in 1997 and had NOTHING to do Jobs rehire or promotion to CEO. AFAIK, Gates/MS has a non voting seat on the board as a result.Bill Gates doesn't "own" apple, but he does indeed own a large amount of it's stock. That's how Apple was able to survive - Wozniack and some of the other guys evidently teamed up with Gates, and they forced Steve Jobs out of his position....he still has a job with Apple, but he doesn't have the power he once used to force people to work all sorts of crazy hours and stuff IIRC.

Yawn...
Price isn't everything in this world. People DO pay more $$ for something which gives them a better experience. That is why we have brands like Cadillac, BMW...
If you're a Wal-Mart guy, fine - stop knocking the people who can afford to go to Nordstrom instead and who don't have a problem paying a premium.
I can affort and do prefer Macs after being a DOS/Windows PC user since 1988 and, yes, Macs are much more straightforward AND stable. Control over your hardware components is a good thing and eliminates the complexity of the interaction between components, their drivers and the OS.
I didn't have to waste days troubleshooting the Firewire controller on my Mac like I did on my XP Laptop because its VIA Firewire chipset didn't get along with my audio interface. Oh yeah, the Mac also already had the driver, so all I did was plung my interface in and start recording music in GarageBand and Logic...

Your paying extra to live in a fantasy world. Enjoy
It's not so much an issue with FireWire/USB devices.
If you buy a computer and you're stuck with Vista, and it works, cool. But as for "upgrading" from say, XP to Vista, there is just no point at all. It will only hinder performance and you will gain nothing.
Didnt want to get mixed up in this but after ready crap like this, i must.

Please check your facts before making up stories to make it sound like you have any clue about what your talking about.
3.14? no such thing.
Here is some news for ya: Apples desktops are made side by side with Dell desktops by Foxconn in the same facility using the same components. Asustek makes all of Apples laptops as well as their own brand of laptop which sells for half the price of a mac using the same parts. So how exactly does Apple differ hardware wise from any other computer? Just because you bought junk components for your PC and could not get them to work correctly is not a problem with the PC, it is a problem with the skills of the person putting it together. Buying a Mac does not change that nor does it suddenly make you an authority on ANYTHING. I still have a half dozen PPro 200 mhz machines that are used daily, connected to the internet, and running win98 that have not been turned off in 2 years, run perfectly, and have 0 issues so the stability argument does not really hold water.

I don't have a copy of xp so now i'm wondering what to do.. should I just get xp.. fork over the cash for it.. or should i try out vista.. at least give it a chance..
My admittedly minimal experience with Vista makes it seem a like pair of jeans made out of concrete cloth, with a mandatory built in chastity belt and gps locator. But it's good to hear it's working for some of us. I'll have another look.windows is like levi's jeans. good durable plain jeans, 30 bucks. can design them any way you want, wear them however you want, with whatever you want.

Apple's stock wouldn't have hit a record high yesterday if people weren't switching over from Windows and buying Macs in record numbers...
everyone's joining mac because it's TRENDY AND HIP and because the average person is an idiot. just like most people are dying their hair black and covering their faces with it. doesn't mean it's better. as george carlin once said .. "just think how stupid the average person is, and imagine half the people are even more stupid than that"
people buy macs because it's trendy like hollister jeans, buying a mac makes you kewl.. just like buying ipods makes you kewl.. and jeans with holes premade in them.. instant kewl. and older people just want something that "works" and they think spending more money will accomplish that, even though they know absolutely nothing about computers or why they're taking a mac over a pc.
also, i think more people that know anything build their own pc's rather than dells.
