Hi, I got a synthesizer for my birthday the alesis micron and have an amp for it. I'd like to hook up a mic to my computer and record some tunes but I'd like to know what you guys think about this mic, the Audio-Technica ST90 mkII. It's only 20 bucks so its very appealing to me, do you guys know if its recording quality is any good? Thanks in advance. *edit* i just read the faqs about mics under 100 dollars and I dont have nearly that much to spend. 50 dollars max is what I could spend.

Plug the synth directly into your recording device, no need for a mic, especially in that price range.

Weather you have a ST90 mkII or a Neumann, as far as I know synths and keyboards are always recorded through line, instead of mic/cab.

I tried that, and found some cables and posted a pic of them on a synth forum. They all reported it should work but I've failed to get it to record or play sound through the computer. Can anyone reccomend me a effecient line in device thats affordable? Thanks.

Then that's another problem. If you can't record a line into your pc, then you won't be able to record a mike.
What software/interface do you use to record?

I believe my soundcard is made for gaming its an x-fi fatality or something like that.. Anyways do I have to buy a new soundcard or audio interface? Appreciate the help guys.

Probably...read up some on the site, do a little research here, then ask a few questions. It's nothing against you, just in the beginning you need to research. We love to help, read up about Reaper to start out with... good luck.

Most sound cards (even built-ins) have at least one audio input, usually in 1/8" type of connector.
Your synth should have a 1/4" connector
You just need a cable from 1/4" to 1/8".
Also if you can't record anything try this:
Open up your sound control panel, go to the "audio" tab, and click on "volume" on "recording". That should get you some kind of mixer to mute and/or select which input you are going to use. You should look for a "line in", or something like that.
