Looking for Shinybox 23 or 46

I've got one 23, so another would be the preference. bodhisan@comcast.net

    Switch for speaker cabinet?

I like to record direct from my Peavey Session 500 for pedal steel, but I also occasionally (when no one's home) like to record it miked. My room's small and cramped, so it's rather difficult to reach back and find the frickin' 1/4" jack input to stick the speaker cable in (it's broken down...

    Acm 900

Just a quick "howdy" to at least say how happy (actually, elated) I am with this tube ribbon from Chance's group buy. Since I got it today, I haven't afforded it the 24-hour burn-in time, and while I wasn't going to even try it out until tomorrow, I couldn't wait. I don't have any sound bites...

    Studio Projects "Halo" Shockmount

What's the deal? Was it no good, or was it too expensive to justify? It's no longer available, it appears, on the SP mikes that used it.

Or Trade EV Raven for ACM 6802T?

I'm more of a condenser type of nut.

Using a head with an amp....for the speaker.

I haven't received a new head yet that I bought (to record direct with), so I can't experiment. If I wanted to use the speaker in an amp that I have, am I able to hook the head up to it through the preamp out/power in input, and if so, does that amp have to be turned on? If it has to be turned...

    Instrument tube pre with e.q....

What's your choice? Mostly interesting in a recording direct from it, especially pedal steel guitar. Bodhisan

    I'm retarded tonight...does Shinybox have a pre?

I've seen one on their website, but no price... Bodhisan

How do you get track names to show up?

When I stick my own CDs into my computer to play on a software, none of the tracks are identified. Just "unknown artist" track one. I use CD Architect 5.0.

Stereo Realistic Condenser with 1/4" Jacks

Dual Pattern Stereo Electret Microphone System 33-919. Found it at a thrift store in good shape. If this is, indeed, a condenser (which is the claim on the box), it needs phantom power, and my preamp only takes XLR connectors for a condensor mike. My thoughts are to sell this, but would like...

    Breakin' in a mic?

Over at a steel guitar forum I frequent, the raves have been over the newest steel amp from Peavey, a 12" cabinet (steelers for the past 40 years had preferred 15" speakers in steel amps), yet it's been claimed you need to "break the speaker in" before it sounds good, i.e. some people run a CD...

    Post-song, compression room noise...

I've been just doing quicker fades, but...is there a trick to dealing with the room noise that becomes audible after the release on a compressed track, i.e. a bass track for instance, that you don't necessarily want to fade out that quick?

Anybody changed the tube in their T3?

I'd like to just for the heck of it. Is it as simple as opening up the box and there it'll be? Changing out in the VTB-1 was involved, but easy. I was going to post this on the PMI forum, but can't get in...

Carol Kaye - muting her bass

I just read the article in tapeop with Carol. She talked about using mutes on her bass, and there's a picture of her with a Fender, and she's got masking tape going across the strings right above the bridge. She also talked about taking a piece of felt, doubling it up, and taping it to the...

    VTB-1...built-in compression?

I've been recording, mostly mic'd acoustic instruments, with the VTB-1 for over two years. I recently acquired a lefty jazz box and tracked with it today. I wanted a dirty sound, so I dialed in the tube at about 4 p.m., getting a pretty nice sound with a touch of crunch. The sound wave was...

    Richard Buckner's guitar

Just for the heck of it, does anyone happen to know what kind of mike was used to record his guitar for the little dittie for the car commercial on t.v.? I think it's a nylon string guitar....anybody?

    Amp noise at jack input

I work as an activity director at an assisted living facility, and I bought an old Peavey Backstage last year to use as a "P.A." for resident council meetings, etc., etc. Works great. However, lately I've been getting noise when the input of the mike is pulled to any degree (loud, short spurts...
