Amp noise at jack input

I work as an activity director at an assisted living facility, and I bought an old Peavey Backstage last year to use as a "P.A." for resident council meetings, etc., etc. Works great. However, lately I've been getting noise when the input of the mike is pulled to any degree (loud, short spurts of static). I brought in another mike to see if it also made the noise, and it did, which leads me to believe it's the jack. I really don't know that much about this kind of stuff, but feel that it needs to be cleaned (the jack), or...what?

You could try cleaning it, or even replacing it would be a simple job. (Assuming you know how to solder)

In a pinch, try cleaning it with a scrub of vodka on a Q-Tip...
