I just saw this in another thread, and thought it was too interesting to not have its own. So who here has built their own kits? How hard is it? How much experience did you already have building stuff? Expense? Enough savings? How about good places to buy shells and hardware?

If I have my audio drive slaved to my system drive, I get incredibly shitty read spead, like completely worthless as a drive. When its slaved, its slower than it should be, but its usable (its 20 times(literaly) than when its a master). Anyone know why this would happen? What the hell is up...

What would be the best way to get good quality stereo recordings that I could take some where to record say piano, and then bring back into my studio? A DAT machine or something like that? Anyone have any better ideas?

I left my mics in my car for a few months :( I know, kill me now. They were in the cold of an indiana winter in the parking lot. Will cold effect mics? Oh, the mics are two marshall small diapragms, an sm57 and a marshall dynamic.

Does anyone use LD condensors on bass drums? Specfically cheaper ones like the v67 or the C-1 or C-3? Do those sound good on bass drums? Will recording bass drums be safe with those mics (from an air pressure standpoint, not stupid drummers like me breaking them)?
