zoom R16 recording glitch

I use a Zoom R16 for recording Radio Plays, 6 mikes and a stereo SFX track. In the first few minutes of recording a get "skipping" where a bit of a single track is chopped out and moved further on. So I get a tiny silent bit then the continuation of what is being said, then the bit that was cut out is "injected" back in. I religiously do the rewind to beginning key push before starting. I did think that it could be a faulty SD card, so replaced it, but the problem is still there.
Any suggestions?

Yes- I record to SD cards as well - and while I use a different platform than the Zoom - I would start there: make sure your machine is updated to the latest firmware and either try doing a full reformat of your existing card - or try a brand new card altogether. Not sure about the Zoom - but my Tascam can be finnicky - make sure you are using a card that is known to play well with your recorder.
 
I have updated firmware to Ver 1.23. Here's hoping!!!!!
