oh come on

"Thus, you will get a shit recording from the PS02"

Do you have a Zoom PS-02? Have you heard the sound quality with your own ears? I have, and it's great for what this device is intended to be, a scratch pad, an idea machine, a portable pal for songwriters and jammers. It is NOT intended to be the equivalent of a $600 or $1000 or $2000 multitrack. You guys are making unfair comparisons. For $300 this is an amazing tool and a great addition to the songwriter's arsenal. Add n-Track studio to your PC and you've got all you need to make some amazing music.

Honestly zoetrope, no one fucking cares. It's portability is basically useless (how many people would want to screw with those tiny buttons, just to get some shitty drum beats and bass lines while on on the train). It's quality isn't even an issue. The fact that you get so few tracks, and really cheasy sounding backups is enough to say screw it to me. I use a 4 track occasionally to do song ideas. I use a drum machine, or that Roland pocket arranger thing for the backup tracks (now that Roland thing is pretty cool cause of it's protabilit, it gets pretty in depth for its size), and I end up bounicing quite a few tracks once my idea is down. I need more then 2 tracks. The size doesn't even become an issue. For me to use it I need a guitar, so a 4 track will fit in my guitar case just as good as this POS.

No one wants to hear ANYONES side of this anymore, just let the thread die already. I'm sure the guy who started it has long since made the decison on what to buy.

Dragon if you're listening in, please close down this thread. It's just repetitive bickering. (And also, for some reason I get 2 identical emails everytime someone posts to it, why is that?)

Well, Ive been gone for about a month but it is amusing to see that the battle continues! And hey, Ive actually got someone arguing on my side (way to go Zoetrope!).

I guess jrlemonz is right in concluding that basically this is a useless argument we are having. I still fully stick by my opinion (as Im sure those arguing against it do too!). In the end I DID buy the ps02 because, as a university student eaking out an existence on macaroni+cheese, this was definitely the way to go. My budget basically allowed me the choice between a standard 4track and the PS02 - easy decision. The PS02 had zillions more features as well as better sound quality in comparision to your average cassette tape (most of the people I know dont even use cassette players anymore).

Anyway, I bought the PS02, downloaded the GOLDWAVE demo off the net to do some finetuning and Im happy.

I guess this argument still comes down to 'different things for different people'. I still feel it is comparing apples vs. oranges when comparing the ps02 to other recording equipment. They are meant for 2 different applications. Of course any PS02 owner would much rather be twisting knobs on a hi-tech digital station as opposed to the tiny ps02 but its not just a matter of which setup is "better" - there are other factors that come in to play.

In the end, I would still rather listen to a shitty recording of a great song (like home demos or live bootlegs) than a pristine recording of a gutless song.

So zoetrope I guess its just you and me. :)

Zoomsters unite!

jrlemonz, if you're bored, go read another thread.

Daled, rock on! I find it interesting that the people who attack the Zoom PS-02 don't even have one. I would never bother to slam a piece of equipment I haven't used extensively. I own lots of equipment I wouldn't bother recommending, but the PS-02 is on my short list of things I own and love.

Heh.

I've never owned a Yugo. I guess I can't ever comment on it being crap.

Congrats on the purchase Daled. I hope it serves your purposes until you move up to the Roland.
