Here's a tune that I mixed recently and I'd appreciate any feedback you can give me on it. I'm just getting used to mixing on my Event TR8's so I would like to know how it sounds on your system (PC, headphones, home stereo etc) to see if it translates properly. Any advice would be great!

Thanks!

I'm listening through my blue sky media desk 2:1 monitors....I'm pretty new to mixing so I can't really offer much advice, but overall I think it sounds pretty good....maybe the vocal track is a little too loud compared to the music, not much, just a tad ...maybe bring up the drums just a hair........like a said, I basically don't know what the hell I'm talking about so take that with a grain of salt...but overall I think it sounds good.

Nice tune ido...yep...I agree. Vox are a bit up front. Maybe compress them a bit, and bring up the music some. That might even everything out a bit. Most of the music seems pretty even, so fix the vox, and you should have it.
Nice tune once again.

Just listening to headphones at the moment and it translates just fine, nice mix. I like the stereo field you have set up, nice panning, all the instruments have their own place and I like 'where' you have them. The beginning sounds a bit compressed but it seems to open up in the middle.

I'd like to hear the bass and guitar dropped in volume during the verses to feature the singing like you do when featuring the slide during the lead. Nice work with the harmonies.

Hey Gerry,

Great stuff, I love the country style of the guitar solo, very Creedance Clearwater Revival!
I am listening on a pair of stereo PC speakers and everything is sitting just fine, nice mix, on my first listen I thought the vocals were a little high in db's maybe 1 or 2, but on my second listen the vocals were sitting just right!...(Hmmm........maybe 1db reduction in the vocals!)

It always pays to have a few listens!
Another fine tune by one of my favourite artist's in this forum!

You always have a memorable and catchy line which is usually the song title in your tunes: eg.."You've got what it takes, knowing that you love me puts a smile on my face!"..............Excellent!

Great stuff Gerry, thanx for sharing!

Gorty :)

* You've got what it takes to put a smile on my face!!! :)

Hi ido

Another great song. Nice and punchy. I guess the vox are a tiny bit too loud for the rest -- and I do like up-front vocals. The rest of the mix sounds great.

Cheers

OOh, got a CCR groove going on Gerry

Nice and fun, aint nothing wrong with this one. I think the vox would be easier to understand if you backed off just a tad.

It really is quite a collection you are amassing. This has a Barenaked ladies feel minus the silly stuff. Its fun and infectious and a great mix.

brandrum - thanks for the listen and the comments. Listening again in my truck, the vocals might come down just a bit. BTW those Blue Sky monitors look pretty cool – do you have a sub woofer hooked up and how do you like it?

Dogman - thanks for listening and the feedback. I think I'm getting a better handle on this mixing thing - the music seems to be coming out more even. I’m playing more with my multi-band compressor after hearing the difference you made when you used one on my prior tune (Dogman Mastering Services :D ). But I still need to check into the vocal levels as you and brandrum mentioned.

NYMorningstar - thanks for checking this out. Glad you like the mix and where things sit. I've been getting a lot of my tips from this board. The compression is just a fixed setting but it could be compressing harder due to overall volumes at the beginning. I'll look at that fader ride during the verses too…

Gorty Yee Haw – that string bending on the solo is something I just threw in when writing this. I thought it sounded good and have kept it ever since. CCR – cool I jammed along with Cosmos Factory for months when I was younger. Maybe that paid off ;) . As far as lyrics go, I must give credit to my better half for most of my inspiration – she makes it easy.

Aspiring – Hey, thanks for listening. I’ll follow up on those vocals as you suggested…glad you find the rest of the mix ok too…

DavidK – Thanks for the listen and the feedback. Appreciate the reference to CCR and Bare Nekked Ladies. Wish I had a million dollars for real though :D . My sister says it sounds a bit like Blue Rodeo too. Comparisons to all those bands is a big compliment (thanks). BTW – how is your mastering / CD going? Did you find some cover art you liked? I kind of liked the original choice myself. Keep us posted!

Sounds good - I concur with the others on the vocals. One thing I might add, however, is it would be nice to hear a bit more of the backing vocals on the choruses. Although it's possible that cutting back on the lead vocal might help the harmonies to stand out a bit more. Nice work!

Thanks for asking Gerry:

It will be mastered on June 12th, the guy doing it has some pretty amazing credentials, has done some serious bigtime stuff. I do not have a cover yet, the name of the CD is " Electronic Symphonica", which was the record labels idea.
Got any ideas for a cover??

I dont know Blue Radio, I am quite familiar with Barenaked ladies though.

Your avatar is pretty cool. And the pic you have on soundclick, the white violin, is sweet.....

Thanks Jeff - You're right, lowering the lead vocals will probably bring out the backing harmonies a little. Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment! :)

That's a cool name for the album. I liked the original art choice, so something with that look / style would be cool by me. Something with a violin in it like Dogman suggested would be cool too..... :) :) :)

Cool tune man.

Gives me Paul Simon vibes.

Nice recording, I`m also hearing some contry music in there.

cool vox.

very sweet sounding, its a classic :)

Nakatira - many thanks for listening and for the positive words.

How is your new band going? I'm looking forward to hearing some recordings of your band....with some guitar and vocals from the Nak-man!

Hey In Control posted something here ( I saw his name on the page by my thread) but no post is showing up in the thread itself. What's up with that? Wasn't he the one with "Christian" in all his posts.....

Not much yet, I`m currently listening to some of the material they`ve got.
Will be doing some more rehearsing soon.

Hopefully get some stuff within a few moths :)

I saw IN CONTROLL as well.
maybe he`s a ghost.

anyway in controll is Ted Phillips or Christian if you preffer.

Lets hope he starts posting again  :D

I like this tune. I agree with all the references. The vox are just a bit hot. Back them down a bit and it would be done.

very nice on pc speakers, I vote for a little more drum (teensy-weensy),
also the comment about dropping some other parts during the lead part I agree with.
damn nice though, foot tapping music.
cheers
C.

Track Rat - thanks for taking the time to listen and post. I'll try and remix this when I can and take the vocals down a bit - spring is here and there's lots of outdoor chores to do...Wish I had written down the mix settings on this so I could remix everything but lead vocals the same. Does anyone here ever do that or is it just full remix each time? hmmmm......

chugheshc - thanks, glad you like the tune. I'll look at the drum levels when I remix this too...
