Hi, I'm interested on a MXL-V67G for vocals,,,, As I haven't buy a descent audio interface,, I have to deal with mi Maya MKII,,,,

On the specs says that the phantom power should be 48V +/- 5V  ,,, and the Maya suply +12V of phantom power,,,,,

That mean I can not use this microphone thru Maya??

What kind of mic should I get then?

I know maybe you had answered these kind of question so many times,,, but I couldn't find information about 12V phantom stuff,,,,,,

Thanks,,,,

Ps: Me sorry bad english,,, ooka ooka shaka shaka

That is correct, you cannot use that microphone with your interface, the phantom power output isn't sufficient. You either need to find a mic that will operate on 12v phantom, get an outboard phantom power unit that will provide 48v, or get a different audio interface or preamp with 48v phantom.

Outboard phantom units are pretty cheap. Look on E-bay. Stewart makes one I believe. I have a couple I keep around, mostly for live use.

Thank you so much,,, I'll try to get a phantom power unit then,,,,

thanks!

There are some Audio Technica mics that operate from +9v - +52Vdc. Look around and you will find some. You will be limited.

Oh,, I didn't know that,,,, I bought the MXL microphone and an external phantom power (Samson S-phantom http://www.soundhouse.co.jp/shop/ProductDetail.asp?Item=639^SPHANTOM^^ )

Hope I did the right choise :(

Going with a mic that requires 48-volt standard phantom, and a phantom supply unit is probably the better way to go, simply because now, with the phantom power unit, and the preamp built into your system, you can really use just about any mic. You also don't have to worry about matching phantom power if/when you decide to upgrade, say, to a full interface, which would most likely supply 48 volt phantom power, since it is (as far as I know), pretty standard.

So, its just one guy's opinion, but I think you should come out pretty well with that combo.

I got the mic today,,,,,,, works really nice and I'm waiting weekend to make more test,,,,,,,,,,, But again missfortune happen to me,,, I accidentally drop the microphone :( ,, I know,, that was just stupid :(

Droppin em is hit or miss, to excuse the pun - I've done the same thing myself once or twice - once it broke the mic, and the other time nothing happened. Build quality definitely comes into play, but have you tested the thing since?

yes,, I tested and nothing happened to the sound,,,,,, (to my inexpert ear) ,,,,,,,, so, maybe no problem,,,

Yeah, you may very well have gotten off scott-free... keep on using it for a bit, but things should be fine - I've found with electronics if a bump is going to cause a problem, it causes it fast... I dropped an MXL 990 onto a hardwood floor a while back, and the thing had a low-frequency hum everafter, but it was immediate.

oh no,,,, I putted the gain up to 12db and I got hum on the back :(,,,,,,, I feel so bad now

,,,,,,,,,,,,,edit
Acually,, from 0db the hum start to sound loud,,,,,,,,,, :(

Sounds like poor design to me. A mic shouldn't fall apart with a single drop, even on hardwood. If that happened to me, I'd send it back.

That said, odds are, the grille isn't grounded as a result of the physical shock. You can probably press it back into place correctly (take apart the headbasket to see what's wrong) and it'll be good as new.

yes,, yesterday I return the mic,,, hope they can fix it or send me a new one haha,, hopefully,,,, but I already know warranty doesn't cover stupidity :( haha
