So I just started this whole recording thing since no one in my town will record worth a crap. I can do it just as good as the guy who recorded us for 50 bucks an hour x)

So I have this song, it's called empty

www.myspace.com/pinkcloudproject

If you could listen, I recorded that myself. I tried mixing some stuff in it. But so far I'm only really using preset EQ's and stuff. Is there a place to find out some basics on EQ? What about frequencies and stuff? I'm all confused here :\

Just to give you a list of what I have as equipment, here it is:

http://reflex-records.co.uk/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=95 (It's basically this but with 2 channels)
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.co...9-Silver-Dynamic-Guitar-Microphone?sku=276668 (Okay 100$ guitar mic, my bad x) )

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/CAD-PRO7-7Piece-Drum-Microphone-Pack?sku=270749 (All the mics but no inputs! ARGH!)

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.co...denser-Microphone-with-Shock-Mount?sku=273156 (Vocal mic but I need some Phantom power!)

Software: Cakewalks Sonar 8.5

No, we don't have a mixer yet. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good mixer thats about, 500-900$ ?

Thank you to everyone who helps me out, I appreciate it!

why do you think that you need mixer?

*try putting little bit chorus and very small amount of delay on vocals.
*i dont hear bass(fault of myspace maybe?)

pretty harsh and muddy ..... bass is missing in action ...... pitchy vox.
Got a ways to go man ..... but this is a decent start.

You may want to check out EZ mix there is a lot of talk about it right now under mixing techniques sub heading 'you guys are going to love this'
Granted this is not a cure all but may help tutor you into what to do, then dump that and add the human element of real hands on mixing not preset plug ins.

Haha after hearing some stuff on here, I KNOW my recording is crap x) And yeah the bass I'm able to hear in my headphones and my actual speakers. But I think I could turn the bass up.

And I would love a mixer, so I could actually use the 7-mics I have for the drums.

Anyone got any tutorials on basics for noobs?

I subscribed to 'Home and Studio Recording' (now just 'Recording') for many years and found their tutorials to be quite good on lots of topics especially for newbies.

You might want an interface instead of a mixer for the CAD Pro 7 Pack. Check out the Tascam US 1641

So, if I wanna record, would an interface be better for all the instruments and I could just EQ them on Sonar and stuff?

Precisely. Plug ins tend to be easier to use and less expensive than hardware effects (like those of a mixer)

50/hr?

so how does that guy get 50 and hour ?

How ? He's the only one in town that does it. He bragged about being good and what-not. But after doing it myself, I decided that I could do just as good as him. I wanna record bands here but I wanna be a LOT better then he is. (:

Just get in a lot of practice and pay attention to detail.
