Cool score. I'd imagine if obtained at a garage sale the price would be right as well.
I'm not sure of the age based on the pictures.
But what it is, is a heavily modified Jr.
They stripped it down (finish) and turned it into a Special. I'd be curious as to the routes in the electronics cavity, and it may have some routes under the p/g
There is nothing original about that except maybe the bridge pup.
Tuners are late moodel double ring replacements most likely made by Schaller. Original would have been 3 on a strip Klusons with white buttons.
Bridge looks like a Leo Quan baddass.
Original would have been just an un-intonateable wraparound.
The knobs are off (as in wrong location) for being a Special, and a Special would have neck binding.
That pickguard is handmade and is an unusual design making me think there's somthing underneath that the guy who did the work was trying to hide. Maybe the wire channel from the switch to the cavity.
The headstock is a small 50s shape. It could be cut down or could actually be a 50s guitar.
Blowing up the headstock, it definately looks like a 50s silkscreen.
Then again, it could be a newer melody maker with extensive work. Hard to say from the pics. Keep in mind I'm veiwing on a phone and blowing them up. However doing that amount of work would be foolish so I kind of doubt it.
Chances of it being an old modified Jr are real high. Back in the day they were dirt cheap and people thought nothing of modding the crap out of them.
The true tell would be if it has a Braz board on it.
If it is 50s, its a score just for the old wood.
Congrats
