The local Sam Goody has one of these, for $219. How well would this do, for an entry level setup? Or should I maybe wait a few more months, and go with something better (hopefully no more than $200 over what I'm asking about)?

Both PSR 290 and 292 are good. For a budget of $200 it is a great keyboard. As long as you have a midi in and out in the keyboard it is good, because you can connect it to any sound module (or) soundfont and use external sounds in the future.
Take a look at Yamaha DGX200 model too, it has more keys (76) and a bender which would be more useful. You can get these models in Best Buy too. Good Luck!

Sounds like I might end up with something decent to work with, when I manage to get ahold of the Native Instruments B4 program. I'm also thinking of a Midiman (or M-Audio?) Oxygen8 USB keystation, so I can start looking to recreate both the sound and range of a Clavioline...then, I can work on doing a cover of The Tornadoes' song "Telestar." :)

I bought the PSR290 and the DGX500 for my musicschool. Both the teachers and students are happy with the boards, though they don't excell in user friendlyness.....though i don't believe that is actually a word.
