Hello all

I am eager to know what do I need to connect Motif 8 to my computer?

I currently have MAudio Delta 66 sound card.

Can I connect Motif 8 to it? If not can you tell me what do I need.

Thank you so much for your help

A midi cable going from your keyboard's midi out/in to the joystick.midi connector on the sound card.

Connect it for what? You can certainly connect the Motif to the sound card's audio inputs for recording. All you need for that is 1 or more 1/4" cables.

You can connect it via MIDI to your sound card's MIDI inputs. I am not familiar with your card but I just looked at a picture. It looks like you would need one of those little breakout cables that plug into the 15-pin jack there on the card.

You can also plug a USB cable from the Motif to the PC, which will act as a MIDI connection. If you do it this way, you don't need MIDI cables.

This will enable you to record MIDI or audio into your PC. If you are talking about connecting it for file transfer (like getting samples from the PC to the MO or vice versa,) then that's a different story. You can transfer voice information over USB, but that's about it. For trading files between the two, you really need a Smart Media card and a card reader. This is the easiest, fastest way, and will only cost about $20-$30 for the reader.

Let me know if this is what you mean and I can try to clarify if necessary.

Also, a really good resource for info on the Motif is www.motifator.com. They have lots of info and a good forum as well.

Motif to Comp

I have the Beast myself... Let me cover my setup.. Fairly easy...

Lets say you have a pattern sequenced in the Motif... Go into the pattern chain mode and record the patt and the scene (mutes). Once completed select edit and song. There will be an option to convert the patern Chain to a song. Usually Song 1. Once completed go into song mode. Notice your song appears... Next save the song as a SMF file... (Standard midi file) I use Sonar so I put my SM card into the drive and open it with sonar.... All the midi data pops up ( Simple).... Next get a midi interface ( I use the Midiman 4 in 4 out.. USB into my comp.... Midi in from Mo to Midi out on the Midi man. Midi out on the Midiman tot he Midi in on the Motif... Go to song mode (multitimbral operation mode) and then go into Utility and look for the option to switch midi trs from usb to midi... (you can use the USB setup if you dont have any other units to chain in. If you dont go to the yamahasynth.com site and download the current drivers.... (May take an hour to complete and setup properly) Once in midi mode in sonar load an audio track press R for record to monitor the track. Take the 1/4 inch output from your Motif into your comps soundcard... Hopefully the software can record audio already :) Now hit record.. The midi data should drive the Motif to play your sequence with the levels on the audio track monitoring.... Your all set.. Once done get out of midi mode in Utility to start playing on the Mo again...

Have Fun....
