Yamaha MD8 thread

Sorry. HAven't been reading much lately. The way to sync them together is to split the footswitch signal. Use a Y-adapter and a couple extensions to hook one switch up to both (or I suppose more, never tried that) machines. Then set both machines to record. When you step on the switch, it starts both machines. They are not in sync, per se, but they do start and stop at the same time. It has always worked for me in the past and I have recorded a couple bands as well as some of my own projects this way. Hope this helps! :)

Note: you may notice an offset of a few millisecoonds between the machines. Don't worry. As long as you don't change any wires or switch the discs, this will be the same every time. You will need to mark the machines and the discs so the discs go back into the machine they were recorded on.

Hey! I just thought of something. I was going through some of the posts for the MD8 thread and I noticed a couple questions and some issues that people were having. Some of these are already addressed on the MD8 help page, (http://f16.parsimony.net/forum26295/index.htm). This site has been an invaluable resource to me for troubleshooting, advice, and even buying /selling.

Enjoy!

Many thanks, again!

I am thinking of spending $2000-$3000 for a machine. Your suggestions would be appreciated.

I've been using my MD8 since they used to cost $2000. I've gotten my money's worth out of it. If I were to spend $2000 to $3000 on another machine today, I'd go Alesis HD24 and buy a decent board. That would kill any of these stand alone machines and your getting into some serious quality. My biggest beef with my MD8 is the lack of rec time I can fit on a MDdata in 8tk mode. With the HD24 your looking at 6hrs of 24tks that's insane. Pickup the extra fw port and dump all your tracks to your Mac and mix or dump onto DVD. You'll never need another drive. Really.
When I express my passion for this format people offen mention the need for outboard gear if you plan to mix from this setup. Looking at the TC electronics M300 processor, I'd rather use that than any builtin effects rolands' got to offer.

I'm trying be reasonable here, if I bring home a Radar24 and Ghost board,I wouldn't have a home to record in.
