Unpossible!
OK, this is a pretty mellow, sorda rocker tune. Any mix issues?

Thanks in advance.

:D

um i think your drums sound distant from the music. The high hat seems to far from the snare. toms to spread out etc. I don't know what you could do for the vocals I think I'd try to bring the mids of the bass out a lil bit in the chorus more to make it stand on its own away from the kick drum thats the main problems I see. at 2:48 - 2:50 when the guitar comes back in thers a timming issue as well

i thought it sounded great. i didn't really hear any timing issues. panning drums i always feel is a preference thing, so if thats how you want it, cool. i really like the tune. cool stuff.

Why, is it not doing something for you? :)
If you haden't said I could take the assumption it's exactally as you intended -and it's as pretty cool song and presentation at that!

- the drummer is the weakest link here. Some of the drummers fills are off, the rest are pretty lame, he doesn't get back the highhat quick enough @ 1:36. It's ruining the groove of the song, if he can't do the fills, just play it straight. Sounds like those toms are out of tune or wore out and he's not hitting them in any sweet spot whatsoever

- I'm not finding the drums too distant, It sounds more like the drummer is singing under the snare drum with a guitar player on his shoulder.

- I'm not sure if mixing will save the groove lost by the drummer

Also I think you're kinda conflicted in your soundstage, got some distant guitar thing, then everything else is in a bedroom, you'll have to decide where you're going with it.

Thanks. The drums are a bit too spread I think. I brought the OH's in a bit, I think that helped. As far as distant, I don't really hear that a whole lot, but I'll try and bring thema hair forward. As far as the bass, yeah, I agree, but the band originally had a very mellow bass sound, and this is about as far as I could push them.

Thanks! I thought the song sounded pretty good, the band had an issue with one part of it, just curious if anyone else would hear what they did.

Hmmm. i was kinda going for the backwards guitars to be kinda bouncing around the stage - kinda ethereal like - sorda like the sound equivalent of the Northern Lights. As far as sounding like a bedroom - hmmm - most of the stuff was tracked in a Russ Berger room, and the tracks are mostly natural ambience. That's kinda funny. I've never heard anyone say that about tracks recorded here in my living room (although it's large and open - over 1000sqft). I'm just glad I didn't cough up the money for Russ!

Thanks for the listen! :D

Vocal seems dry compared to the band, and ac guitars could be a bit more wide panned to help the center channel.

Excellent recording.

Thank you!

You are the closest to what the band has said. They love all the music, they just didn't like how the vocals sat. They were to wet, now, maybe too dry. I dunno. Maybe they just need something else?!?!?!!?

Anyway, I re-mixed it. Brought the drums in, and forward a hair. Wet the vox a bit - tried to split the difference from the last mix, and the "too wet" mix.

Let me know if this is any better.

Anybody else? ..the band had an issue with one part of it, just curious if anyone else would hear what they did..
Why don't you tell us what you and the band are hearing? At this level of quality (good) it's pretty much style and preference here.

See the post above - I think we posted at almost the same time...... :D

Voice is a bit more in front now; some things I could note (some I´m sure, others are speculation, let me see if it helps):

*(speculation first)::D
I think, listening with monitoring and phones, overall mix (vox and maybe acoustic guitars tracks) could be benefit of some cut around 300hz.

*what I´m sure: guitar (solo) at 01:22 has a mid peak and it´s seriously fighting with voice (IMO).

Take a look at 0:45, 1:08 ...(new version)

Sounds pretty (very) good to me. Since you asked what's wrong with the mix, I have to look hard to nit-pick, so the only thing I can find is that I don't like the sound of the hi-hat...too much "tick". Aside from that, the SOUND and mix is good. Not crazy about the drumming, but that's not a sound thing, it's a performance thing.

Sounds better on these speakers

Ok I'm listening another on non work speakers, sounds better here in a smaller room. Don't seem to be any mix issues on these speakers, anything else is just personal preference and you might as well ask the band for that. Too bad the band seems more concerned with the mix and less with the lack luster performance of the drums.

Sometimes the bass sticks out a bit towards the end.
The drumming is OK - no one in the band is brilliant but they all sound fine to me.
I like the ambient swinging backward guitar!
The Tick tick is a bit loud.
I didn't mind the dryish vocals myself.
Nice work.
