Although I have no spare money at all, would I be mad to turn down 2 (Used) Neumann KM184's (Black) for £320?

I do want a pair of SD condensers. Is this an investment? I don't have long to make up my mind! I may be able to offer £300!!

Please help!

Yeah, pull the trigger.

Oh, and the bathroom is down the hall on the left. :D

Yeah I know...

The thing is, it is a guy in Germany selling them, who I don't know. I have offered to pay by cheque (BTW - price included shipping etc), so at least my bank will have a record of a payment being paid to an account, just in case the mics don't exist!!

I have suggested to the seller that I send a cheque for half and then the other half on receipt of the mics. This way we both share the risk 50/50!

What would you do?

Tough call, you hate to lose the deal, but you hate more to lose the money!
If your the least bit worried,I'd say look for a escrow service like C7 said.

Even if you send him half,if he rips you off, your still out half.
Can you afford for that to happen?

Are they a matched pair?
This increases the worth somewhat.

What would 2 cost you new?

How did you come across them?
An E-bay type thing?
With E-bay,you can at least check the sellers standing .

If you think it's legitimate, there among the best SD condensers out there.
If you think it's bogus, just take your money and buy one new for now.
You can always get a second later.

I don't think the guy selling them would know if they are a matched pair, as he is the second owner. He bought them from an events company. I will ask him though.

He is an Ebayer and all his feedback is positive.

The KM184's are expensive in the UK - £495 each!

well if its less than the price of one, for two. Seems like a no brainer. But the security of the transaction can make it a little less of a no brainer.

I don't see why it would be any more risky than any other ebay sale. Unless you suspect the germans of some sort of microphone conspiracy... I've been thinking about that one... I met a German archetect in Japan and he never ONCE mentioned microphones. And when i brought out my sm58 to record his insane laughing he asked what it was. Like he didn't know it was a mic. He was skirting the issue trying to pretend he didn't know anything about it. Conspiracy, oh yea...
