Yes, Please keep as much footage as possible. I have no problem with "hours" of footage and would pay you for a DVD. I dont have a short attention span so I would greatfully appreciate this. The more footage the better.

One of the problems I find with "home recording" dvd's are they are too short, assume too much and leave out most of the relavent info because alot of people have short attention spans.

I actually think this is a brilliant idea as a commercial venture. If you just have some free tidbits to share for free that's great.

But I'd bet that someone like a Rod Gervais or Knightfly or Ethan Winer or some other studio construction expert could make a good buck with a video detailing the construction techniques involved in soundproofing and acoustic treatment. I built a pretty darn good basement studio in about 6 months, but only after over a year of intense research. It was very difficult waiting nearly 2 years. I would have bought a DVD in a minute.

In my research I found a neverending, worldwide interest in home studios. Most are in basements or garages. A DVD with examples of both would be a big hit.

Hello Sonic. Your idea is cool. And not to be negative, but from my recolection , you ran your Resiliant Channel over OSB, correct? If so, how do you reconcile this method vs manufacturers tested analysis of transmission loss when compared to NO leaf between the RC and airgap?

Well, that's one of the things I did wrong that I would tell people not to do. Ya see, my story is just as much a cautionary tale as it is an informative narrative.

I had a drywall contractor, a very experienced guy who was very experienced with RC, insist that the RC belonged between two sheets of drywall and this is always how he did it. Supposedly he had done several multifamily units this way. I showed him some pages from the USG handbook that opened his eyes.

Just goes to show that there are several simple principles that even "experts" don't know about. Except for a few music hotspots like LA, Nashville, maybe NYC, it's very hard to find contractors that know anything about studio contruction. That's where your DVD comes in handy!

Yea, hopefully the rest of the home was NOT built by the same kind of "know it all" morons. Like FIELD designed trusses..or NON engineered foundation/slabs on soils like in DENVER .or the plumbing...or. THE ELECTICAL!! I can see it now. Multiple earth grounds...buried j-boxes.. man I've seen stuff that was plain criminal.

Well my parents are about to buy another duplex and the common walls don't have resilient channel on them. But they do share seperate sills, which is good. But I thought it was code that resilient channel needs to be on common walls. Oh well, the guy who built it saved a few dollars I guess.

The code does not (never did - never will) mandate construction techniques.

It mandates a standard which must be met.

In the case of residential units - it establishes a minimum standard of "X" STC for isolation ratings for walls and floors - and also the impact rating for floors.

But it doesn't detail how one is to acheive that rating.

So, "no" it is not a code requirement that this be done.

In fact - if you have decoupled wlls - this doesn't gain you anything anyway - so mandating it would be a waste of construction dollars - and I (for one) would be real upset over that.
