Hello,

Didn't get a chance to hear the posted comparisons of word clocks, but went ahead and bought the Genex6.

Does it make a difference over the AD9624 clock? Yes. The image, depth, and clarity are all improved, IMO. It's like the difference between ice cream, and ice cream with fudge on top. Makes it a little sweeter!!! I feel that I'm getting closer to that "pro" sound. Next, to upgrade the D/A's on the Fostex. Need 16 channels of solid conversion. Any ideas?

A question on word clock: I'd like to run the clock into the fostex and a digital mixer at the same time. The genex6 has the outputs, but will the digital mixer accept a word clock while at the same time accepting ADAT lightpipe? That two digital "sources" at the same time. OK to do this?

thanks for the help!!

the digital mixer will accept the GEN's clock. You just have to make sure that the clock signal is terminated. If its a card inside the console, its likely that the card will terminate the clock (like for instance the cards in the Mackie D8B) if not, you have to get a clock terminating plug, which you can get from any decent audio place for 5 or 6 bucks.

The "best for the money" converters at the moment I'd say Lucid ADA8824, email me for a good price

I've got a Genx6 coming to drive my D1624, and the external Fostex AC2496 I just installed. Right now, I'm just driving the AC2496 with word clock out from the D1624, and it sounds adequate.

I've basically bet that the Fostex converters (both internal and external) will improve noticeably when driven with a better clock, meaning that I can save my meagre budget for other gear that will help more than replacing those converters. The actual converters themselves are a decent design- I'm going to stick with them, and evaluate the improvement from the better clocking.

Will they be as good as the high-zoot standalone converters? Probably not. But they'll be better than they are _now_, I bet, and maybe I'll have enough cash left over for a Ghost... (;-)
