As much as I normally detest this kind of thing, I find this one strangely attractive. I like the colors, I've got a thing for certain types of dragons, and I was into the beginnings of prog rock. I could see this on my wall. If I ever put together a prog band, it could be useful as a player. Other than that, yeah I wouldn't want to play that in a blues or 'southern rock' band.

Funny thread.

A nice burst is functional art.
I guarantee if I handed any of you anti-nice guitar guys a spectacular burst, you'd play it.
(After you picked up your jaw from the floor)
:-)

Of course we'd play it. Would I covet it? No. Would I set it above my other guitars? No. There are thousands of nice guitars that don't advertise the fact with ostentation, special finishes, cutting-edge body shapes and design innovation. There is, in my opinion, an acme of playability, but it has a slightly blurred resolution based upon personal preference. What I'm saying is, that level of playability can totally be achieved with a reasonably-priced guitar and the rest is "premium" materials, innovative design, ostentation and attention-seeking fuckery.

Only one thing could result from taking this guitar onstage - embarrassment. How could one play something "ordinary" on this? If you don't stand there shredding and posturing and blowing everyone away with virtuosity for an hour, then you are going to look a twat. Everyone will say "All the gear - No Idea". :D Setting oneself up for a fall is not my idea of fun. :D

This.

And this.

The cape would be the only redeeming quality of seeing someone actually play that abomination of gayness.

I'm trying to visualise the costume that would be required to live up to the gayness of that instrument. Everything falls short.

I'm thinking maybe someone that writes Game of Thrones fan fiction would wear something appropriate to play that guitar. Not that he could afford it on his part time comic book store salary.

That's silly. First off, who here is "anti-nice guitar"? A "spectacular burst" doesn't necessarily mean it's a good guitar. Secondly you assume that we've never seen one before.

So serious :-) Btw, a spectacular burst by my definition does mean it's a good guitar. I'm not talking about a case queen.
And no one is assuming any thing.
Me? I love nice guitars.
What do I play?

Beaters. Beaters all the way. :-)

I do like bursts. Well, some of them. I like a subtle vintage kind of burst. I do like the often hated on "clownburst" Les Pauls though. Most people like a natural or dark to light burst, but I like bursts with color. Like Cherryburst.

I like silverburst better than any other type of burst finish. I have one guitar that's cherry red with a flame maple top, and one that's swamp ash with a transparent blue finish...and the wood grain factored very little into my purchase decision on the red one, and zero on the blue one.

Man, I'm not used to seeing you gigging on guitar!! Must be fun. You know who else digs the silverburst....our pal Roarie. ;)

Ha, dude I've gone full bore mental on guitar shit lately. Anyway, yeah I gig a lot on guitar, and still drum with my other band too.

How is Rory anyway? Tell him I said hello.
