EDIT: Never mind, I took it to the repair dudes.

DOUBLE EDIT: The repair dudes said the Level pot is toast. They're getting a 3rd party replacement. Should be ready sometime between now and my death.

Hello...just picked up a really top condition 424mkiii...great physical condition, looks barely used. The one problem is that the "Level" knob does not work. The Monitor Level. I believe it controls the headphone level only and has no effect on the master out. At first I thought it would not be a big deal since I could control track levels when overdubbing using each track's "Effect 2/ Tape Cue" knob. Which is somewhat true...but basically what's happening is that because the "Level" knob is dead it appears the volume is always max in the headphones. So mixing down etc and setting levels in the headphones is not really doable since you're just at max headphone level all the time. I could run a cable out of the headphone jack and into some sort of mixer and then control the headphone volume like that...but yeah...not really practical. So...

Any knowledgeable people here who might know a solution before I take this thing to the repair shop, cap in hand?

This isn't my mkiii but I attach a pic pointing to the Level knob.

Thanks
