Wiring up my studio

I've some experience in using studio gear thanks to college but now that i've left college, i have brought a few stuff and am setting up a studio however im having some problems connecting certain things and having to get everything to work with eachother.

I am looking for someone who could help me via Instant Messenger, im very desperate and i'm willing to 'hire' (pay for) help so that i can get this sorted asap as it is quite urgent.

My main problem is the Behringer DDX3216 Mixer and my Rode NT1-A Microphone. I can't seem to get anything but a bassy feedback sound. I also have a few other stuff such as Proteus 2500, a Korg Triton Extreme, Motu Microlite Midi Interface, MV-8000

I'm gonna take a wild guess that you are singing into the wrong side or the top of the microphone. The Rode is a side address microphone.

Hi,

I'm gonna look back in about 3/4 years time and slap myself for this. Infact, i might as well think ahead....

I took the mic off the mount and tried speaking into the side as you said (which i didn't know about it being side addressed) and it worked. I put it back in the mic stand which has a pop shield and i was back to step one; (the bass noise) so i upped my gain but it isn't that clear but thanks for that, it has put me in the right direction.

I have another question (if you or anybody else knows?) I got the behringer ddx for 400 pounds from someone which was an offer i couldn't refuse (as its 800 pounds at my local dealer) but i already have an inboard mixer on my Roland MV-8000 however i would like to make my behringer mixer the source of sound (using microphone vocal recordings/monitor montioring/adjusting my triton keyboard sounds etc..)

Is it possible to connect the mv-8000 to the DDX and have the DDx control mv mixdowns?

should i connect my proteus and korg into the mixer or should i connect it to the mv8000?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

A pop filter should make very little difference. Do you have the manual? If not, it's here:

Look on pg. 7, there is a picture of proper setup. You shouldn't need to be too close, in fact if you get real close (like 6" or less), the mic will have more bass response. This is called the 'proximity effect'.

read the manual thanks and my setup was correct but i cant get a clear vocal without having to be 2/3 inches away from the mic.

if the put the gain or volume up i then get a sudden bassy feedback..

im still trying to figure out what the problem could be

Is the mic in the same room as your playback system? If so, you'll need some headphones fro tracking of the feedback ain't gonna go away.

I've got to put the Track 1 up 3/4 volume and the main volume about 3/4 with the Gain about 1/2 to get a decent position of recording but im sure thats wrong, i shouldnt have to put it that high overwise i'd have to set every other track around the highly volumed mic track.

Okay, i've kind of got it at a decent level and will try and test some recordings as soon as i get the rest of the gear wired up.

How would i go about connectin the MV-8000/Proteus2500/Korg Triton to my mixer?. i can only see outputs on the back the mixer..

I assume that the mv8000's master output would have to connect to the behringer somehow but i can't seem to figure out where seeing how the behringer has only 1/4 outputs and no inputs.

1/2 gain is usually about +30dB on most mixers, that should be about right for the Rode, maybe even a little low. The faders at 3/4 is normal, that should be near a position labeled +0dB, Unity, 0, or something like that. That means that the fader is neither increasing nor attentuating the level from the preamp (gain control).

Yeah it sounds more like the setup at my college. the levels of the volume and dB seem alright so i'll be testing it out.

As for wiring the gear, i've figured it out!!
