i had a windows XP for a recording computer but after about 6 years it finally went out so i bought me a Dell INSPIRON zino to use for a studio computer but when i tried to install adobe audition 3.0 it said that my sound card wasnt compatable so i uninstalled it and installed adobe audition 1.5 and it basiclly said my computer was to advanced for it.
my question is does anybody know a recording program that will work with my computer besides something like protools because i cant afford that and a M-BOX i never messed with that stuff before i use a MXL 990 and adobe 3.0 and my music sounds great so i never messed around with pro tools or a M-Box and i dont really have the money to start messing with them now.
but yea if anybody can help me please do.

Down load reaper (free) and see what it does for ya if it works out then you purchase it when you can.

Like moresound said, Reaper... or Sony Acid Music Studio (not Pro) is only like $60 or $70. Mixcraft is another budget DAW.. I think the newest version runs aroun $70 or so.

OK one thing I don't understand about your post - you state Audition 3.0 said "your sound card wasn't compatible". Windows installs hardware drivers separate of any application installs. Does Windows 7 identify your sound card, and does the sound card work in Windows? If it does, it seems strange to me that Audition would complain, unless Audition (which I don't use) wants to install its own drivers.

AA 3.x requires ASIO drivers if your (unspecified) sound card lacks such drivers try:

this

with appropriate drivers for the A/D/D Audition should work fine with Win7 (and in any case PT m-box is a step down from Audition not up)

honestly i have no clue what the sound card thats on my computer i asked what it had in it when i bought it but they didnt have any details about the sound card but they told me it had a Integrated ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics card in it which is pretty good so i figured it must have a pretty good sound card in it and if i ever needed to know what the sound card in my computer was i could always go online and look it up but i was just on the Dell website and it didnt have any info on what sound card they put into this computer.
i tried installing reaper and that got me a virus that took a good 3 hours to get out of my computer between the back up restore disk, disk defragment and McAfee full virus scans. then i tried installing acid music studio and found a couple sites that had it but then some how got directed over to trying to install sony acid pro 7.0 and couldnt get that on my computer to save my life and then i tried to even get audicity beta which is a free program that kinda looks like a messed up version of cool edit pro on my computer but that wouldnt even work.. i thought i had it but when i hit record it wouldnt pick up any vocals the line just stood completely still.. man this computer is frausting as fuck i was way happier with XP every program from fruity loops to acid and adobe worked fine without question but im stuck with this computer because its on loan. there has to be a way to make this computer work..

Jesus Christ...

You must of had a bad site try reaper again.
I've never heard of that with reaper before....Are you sure it was from their site that you got the down load?

()

You shouldn't have gotten a virus from REAPER. I've been running it for a year and a half with no problems at all. (and besides, I really doubt that the guy who invented Gnutella and WinAmp would put a virus in his software..:D)

Also, REAPER's not free. It's free to try for 30 days and $60 for a personal/small business license. The demo will work past the 30 days though.

In case you got it from somewhere else, here's the website: http://www.reaper.fm/

no i didnt go to reapers website i went on google and typed in reaper recording program and looked for a good site im just surprised my McAfee didnt pick up the virus before i downloaded it :/

Huh? There is no Windows 7 specific download. Just Windows 32-bit and Windows 64-bit. And for Apple: OSX Intel, OSX PPC, and a beta of OSX Intel x64

Go to this page and click on the first link. It's the one that says:
"Windows (4.4MB installer)"

I had problems getting the executable from Reaper's site to run in windows 7. It kept giving me a hash mismatch error... I went to Download.com and got it form there. It worked with no problems.

i went to that website and it said the same thing as the reaper website did when i tried to open it.

If your Win7 computer is 64-bit, you probably want the 64-bit Reaper.
