First of all, why would you put it on youtube? You want people to hear it, agreed?
Goes back to my point.
Now, being mean as far as a critique doesnt help but I will tell you what i hear. It's not a bad melody in the verses, the chorus makes
little sense and doesnt add but distracts from the songs impact.
And in this case why not hire a singer? This singer is all over the place with pitch, and the grand canyon reverb is not helping.
The piano playing sounds a bit choppy.
Again, if this is a song demo, performance and quality is not huge, but you are posting it on youtube, which means you are showcasing the song as is.
Latest single? Lol dont know about that.
Evidently you will parrot along with the other trolls without reading. The first post states that there are bad songs on the radio, that doesnt mean they want your bad songs, you are not able to make a recording so good that it competes with the radio, song being good or not."but a professional song will stand out over non professional one."
Really, I've heard some "professional" rubbish of late & some amateur diamonds (& not in the rough).
Do yu mean professional recording? Or professional song as it says in the quote?
I think there's a tendency in "radio land" to use technique/current/popular fads over a good song - the overuse of Autotune/melodyne being an example. Tin Pan Alley was filled with PROFESSIONAL songwriters paid to climb on the bandwagon of sound, sentiment and source. Even Lou Reed was an in service songwriter - the Ostrich or something similar being an example of his "professional" work. The last 10 albums by Lou have been examples of poor songs in a professional setting by a professional song writer.
Mid to late 70's I was paid AUS$78 a week (when the AUS$ was worth about US$0.80). A couple of hours in a studio was paid for by all the fellows in a band and we rehearsed incessantly until we had the songs down so we could best use the expensive time. I know rehearsing a part isn't nearly as important now as an hobbiest - though I do it a fair bit & have to do it across a few instruments.
I think the thread is bare.
Watching a video on youtube allows one to hear the song AS well as watch something too..pretty basic really. As for vocal performance, hey sure! If you know of any GREAT singers that would liek to sing my song, plse pass them on to me. I'd love to see my song shine to its fullest. Yes it is my latest single, you can bet on that LOL...
Your first post is right on....
...But what's your point as it's only of relevance to those that do want to become stars and is recognised as NOT the main motivation of the majority of those who do home recording. You then go on to call the activity fruitless and a monster??? Free speech and all that but you'd be better off finding another forum 'cause you are not getting the point.
Get some perspective - irrespective of the level, people want to invest their time and money in something because it is of interest to them, it motivates them, they love it. If they want to put the money they earn into it that's of value to them, not fruitless. I could apply your train of thought to pimping cars... I can't think of anything more a waste of money..or buying the best of hifi equipment to hear what are after all just songs, and so on.
Greg L's CD isn't a hobby he wants others to pay for. It's a piece of him, he has put out there and asked if people value what he did. If he doesn't sell, it matters not a jot to him. SOme stuff may not be a massive hit. But other people might just like it at the quality it is.
Why start acting if you're not going to win an oscar? Why write of you wont win the pulitzer prize? Think of a pyramid or an iceberg with only a small pinnacle at the top. Every walk of life - music creation, sport, business. Only room at the top for a few and several ways to get there.
p.s. tell Norman Cook (Fatboy slim) with his atari st computer running early versions of cubase that home recording doesn't get you anywhere.
And back to your first point. Yes loads of home recording stuff sucks.
So what! I'm not gonna criticise. Why do you feel the need to?
first off the only reason greg sells his CD is to give the money to charity.and you sound like a typical windbag on a forum, who attacks people as if they are a threat to their existence,
id be inclined to believe your answer, if your cd wasnt up for sale on cdbaby and your webpage.
Its a hobby you want others to pay for then?
Showing my music, would not solve anything. Im not the one trying to make records in my room.
got it ... you're a no-talent douche bag ....... you've made your point.ahhh the ole tie my music to a charity gag.
Why dont you give all the music away free, in exhange for information about your cause. Dont sell it, some might think you are stealing![]()
they have a passion for something ..... it doesn't always have to be about making it big and people that think it does are sad pathetic individuals with a lifetime of bitterness ahead of them.I dont think I have an argument either, being it wasnt one. That is until you and your cronies countered my STATEMENT
There are folks ion boards who are into the tens of thousands on gear. And they still havent left the board.
A huge argument in favor of toning down ones enthusiasm in home recording
we like the equipment ..... we like buying our new toys ........ is there something you like? Besides being a douchebag that is?Thats fine too. But whatever gear you have should be enough then. There is no need to start threads on new mics, new compressors, new de essers, and no need to buy new gear. Its not going to change the outcome of your satisfaction.
So long as it dont sound like shit.
first off the only reason greg sells his CD is to give the money to charity.
Secondly ........ don't record if you don't want to.
I do it for a living but the vast majority of the folks in home recording do it for fun. That's a good enough reason.
And yes, there's a lotta crap that gets recorded at home but there's also quite a bit of stuff on the boards that is remarkable.
got it ... you're a no-talent douche bag ....... you've made your point.

wow ..... SO good he could be George in a Beatles trinute band ...... so you don't even know what makes a good guitarist do ya'. I love the Beatles but there's nothing George ever played that was very difficult for even a mediocre guitarist. It's the same with an instrument. I played in a band in high school with a guitarist so good, he became a replacement george harrison, on a beatle tribute band.

lol ............ I'm a better musician than you will ever be ........ you're a dumbass.because it's like running in the special olympics, even if you win you lose.
Besides you wont admit Im better than you, so why argue the point.
Ill check back precisely 1 year from today, and see if any of you have improved as musicians or songwriters.
And id really hope you would have moved on from this, Im not overly optimistic however.
With the nation slipping into poverty it's good you can waste money on something you cant use.
Why not buy dildos? Might be a good thing for you
lol ............ I'm a better musician than you will ever be ........ you're a dumbass.
